Hi,

I have a few questions about the MS20 VCF layout by look mum no computer.

https://www.lookmumnocomputer.com/projects#/simple-filter

I am not bothered about the LEDs, could I just use diodes.

I assume the answer to that is of course you can you crazy fool, an LED is a diode Rolling Eyes

BUT which ones would I be best using ?? are they LEDs rather that diodes for a reason and it won't sound as good???

And finally, when ever I design a panel for my modules I like to put the name of the person who's design I built (EFM, MFOS, Rene, Yusynth etc), but this one was originally designed by Rene Schmitz (or Korg for the pedants Very Happy ) , then Clacktronics did the original layout, then LMNC made a simpler version.

I'd love to put all their names on, but I wouldn't have room for the controls Very Happy, so I just need one but don't want to offend anyone who did play a big part in the design .. (god dam it, it might just be easier to not put any name on it.. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy )

Hey, yes you could do it, but instead of 1 silicon diode per LED I would recommend using 3 in series. The two LEDs are limiting (soft clipping) the feedback/resonance signal depending on their forward voltage. The LEDs have a forward voltage drop of about 2.2V. In order to get similar performance you can replace them with the 3 silicon diodes in series who have a forward voltage drop of about 0.65V (0.65V * 3 = 1.95V).

ah, I might just stick with the LEDs then I think it's easier, I guess I don't have to mount them on the panel.

I'm just designing the panel and was thinking where I can put them and what to label them, so thought I'd just not use them, but I guess I can use them just not put them on show Wink

The LEDs are for limiting resonance, they won´t light up! Very Happy

I've decided to use them anyway to be on the safe side, but I'm not going to mount them on the panel (especially not if they don't light up Very Happy Very Happy ... although I'm sure they did on the look mum no computer video he did ?? )

I haven't quite finished it yet as I am struggling to source some of the parts, well I say some of them. 1 of them, the 470nf cap.. it says ceramic I can find MLCC (multi layer ceramic capacitor) , I assume these are ok ??

Your panel is very good looking. Wondering what you used.

Happy filtering when you get the rest of the parts Wink

My LEDS are lighting up when the resonance is fully open. I used green LEDS.

Smile cheers, it's just an old piece of sheet steel I had laying around. it is actually not going to be the final panel, I have a nice sheet of alu that I'm gonna cut up when I have a moment, I normally just use cardboard for testing stuff but just found this Wink

yeah I finished mine and mine light up too Smile I am thinking off adding them to the panel after all Very Happy

just on another note, I asked in this post about using 470nf multi layer ceramic caps if they were ok... I tried one and it didn't seem to work properly so not using a cap at all there at the mo and it sounds awesome ...
