Attached is a patch that does Tassman-style modal synthesis: 8 parallel high-resonance bandpass filters, excited by an input impulse.

The G2 bandpass filters don't seem well-suited for this kind of synthesis: the duration of their ringing resonance is either too short, or continuous. So there's an additional envelope/vca that cuts off the sound when you release a key.

The mod wheel controls the timbre and envelope of the input impulse.

Only the first variation is programmed.

This is very cool.

I bet when the 1.4 version with Palle's genetic variation devloper will work very well with a patch such as this.

Here is a little trick that gives more precise control over the ringing time of a filter.

How it works:
Internally a 12 dB filter is on the point of self-oscillation and the resonance is damped by feedback of the bandpass output to the input. By using an 'external' resonance feedback path and some scaling it is possible to get more precise control. Note that it is best to set the filter resonance fully open and invert the bandpass output before the feedback. Then it is just a matter of which mixer knob curve to use, and optional extra range scaling, to create the desired 'feel' for a decay knob.

Thanks for the tip, Filtermeister! Smile

I'll add that to the patch. Looking back on it, there's some other stuff I'd like to add, too.

Here's a subsequent version that incorporates Rob's feedback mechanism. It also includes a tuned resonator, similar to the hollow tubes under a set of vibes. The resonator can be turned off via a mixer knob in the 'effects' section.
