I wonder why the G2 Noise module does not have a pink noise setting?

Here are a couple of simple circuits that can be used generate an approximate pink noise signal.

Here is some more that might be useful to some of you.

1) A digital noise filter that changes the evenly distribution into a bellshaped one.
2) A 'classic' pink noise filter.
3) A noise filter that morphs between pink noise and blue noise.
4) A very cheap in resources filter that is somewhere inbetween pink and white, and enhances the presence of e.g. noise based percussive sounds in a mix.
5) A moderately broad bandpass filter with some slight resonance, not unlike a peak equalizer, but specifically suited for filtering noise. In the patch it is chained after filter 3) to combine into a versatile variable noise filter.

Here is a patch that produces one of the best pink noise spectrums that may be possible with the G2. It has 33 white noise sources feeding 33 6dB low pass filter bands set at 1/3 octave frequency cutoff intervals from 13.75Hz to 21.1kHz with each higher frequency band attenuated by approximately 1dB (resulting in the required overall -3dB per octave low pass filter slope). Separate white noise sources were used for each filter band to decouple what appears to be a slight signal phase interaction between each band when using a single white noise source. Thankfully the G2 software programmers did a good job of making sure that each noise module in a patch is seeded differently resulting in a different output from each instance. Wink

This patch is too DSP hungry and bloated to be of practical use as a building block noise source in a normal synth patch. But it is useful for the generation of a very accurate pink noise signal for test purposes.

Here is another version of a simple patch to generate an approximate pink noise signal. This one has an EQ added to boost the mid frequency band for a better spectrum.

A working example is used in the “mm 2 Osc VM” patch posted here:

Check out Variation 6 for a high resonance filter sweep of the pink noise source. Cool

I took a video 👍 https://youtu.be/axsIXL-kUX8

I believe it's a possibility Varice is no longer with us. I will put his name in this patch I am working on that uses this block.
