Broketronica, 05/04/06, Sidecar Bar and Grille, Philadelphia Subject description: Broketronica. A monthly event of progressive electronic music |
|
|
Starting Thursday May 4th, and continuing on every first thursday after that,
leafblower will be presenting a monthly program of progressive electronic music showcasing artists from the Philadelphia area.
This event will be taking place at the Sidecar Bar and Grille on 22nd and Christian St in Philly.
Currently leafblower is the only confirmed artist playing this gig on May 4th, with a tentative appearance from two other artists to be announced later.
We are interested in having other musicians play at this thing. The first gig will be an uncompensated gig, with the possibility of financial renumeration later on, depending on the success of this thing.
Further information to come later, for more info visit

We're hoping to maybe start a new "scene" in philly, free of some of the snobbery and cliquishness of the existing scene.
All musical styles will be considered, as long as there are some electronic/electroaccoustic elements to the music, and you're not a 10 piece band. The sidecar is quite a small space. Intimate, even.
Feel free to contact us for more info....and help us build something of a scene.
thanks,

Hmmm... No snobbery or cliquishness?
Seriously, congrats on starting this. I really hope it pans out to be a big success. I'll try my best to check it out and I'd love to perform there too. _________________ --Howard

Definitely interested in having you play out. |

Thanks Mosc...we're pretty much starting this with very limited contacts...we have two possible other performers for the first showing, one a dj (not sure of his stage name but he has a show on WPRB and spins quite a bit of leafblower's music....
the other is a less of a definite possibility, groove oriented laptronica, goes under the moniker of def a killa.
I'm really hoping to get more people out...we tried casting the net closer to shore at first for this, but for some reason lots of electronic heads don't seem to like leaving the safety of their bedrooms.
I'm really looking forward to this first night, and i want to stress again that if anyone here is interested in playing at this gig (and has performance ready materials to please contact me through here, or at
jcastag@verizon.net
or
through the leafblower myspace page
http://www.myspace.com/leafblower
thanks for the kind words of support mosc....
and you're definitely welcome to play.

yo leafblower. good lookin out on the night.... but you nailed it on the button (sort of) with your above comment.
when you speak of cliqu-e-ness in the philadelphia electronic scene..... I don't know if it really exists, it's just that there are no more regular "electronic" live pa nights. people just don't want to come out to nights and/or are turned off by laptop wankery. FM was cool while it lasted (1 year). There were some big nights, others were crap ......and they were FREE. Hologram is no more .....because the attendance was mediocre on a good night + La Tazza (RIP) had a better vibe for the night (in my opinion.)
regardless...... i'll be there tonight. hopefully with a few heads. |
