This is a recent remix of from the original master tape from 1977.

The accompaniment tracks filled up all four tracks on my a3340s recorder and was designed for live performance wherein I played the lead part live. Thus, I had never done a mix that included the lead part until now.

The accompaniment utilizes six tracks: the first three were mixed down to a mono track. In this mix, I was able to improve the mono mix by processing it through the Kurzweil K2600's Mono-to-Stereo processor.

The Mono-to-Stereo processor allows the mono track to be divided into frequency bands -- each band can be given its own delay amount and pan position.

I re-learned the lead part for this recording and utilized the Aries modular for the patch. I played the lead on a touch-sensitive keyboard (the supplied Aries Keyboards were not touch-sensitive) and utilized the Aries' Voltage-controlled envelope generators to change the envelope on-the-fly while playing.

FYI -- at the time of the original recording, my Aries had only 11 modules.

Hope you enjoy this.

-- Kevin

This is excellent, superior to many things that have made it to LP release, at the time and since.

Thank you very much for your compliments.

To answer your question, I still own the Teac A-3340S recorder, though I have only used it to transfer tapes over to the digital domain.

I don't use the machine much these days -- it is heavy and takes up a good deal of space. A couple years after I did the Bach recording, I acquired the Teac AN-300 Dolby Noise reduction unit (designed to be used with the 3340) and when running at 15ips I was able to get very clean recordings. (At 7 1/2 ips there was noticeable flutter, 15ips is much better).

Very cool! It creeps me out in a very good, nostalgic way. I want to listen to more!

Thank you for you nice comments.

The attachment here is a movement from the Correlli Christmas Concerto. It utilizes the Aries synth and seven tracks (recorded on the Teac A3340S). This was done a couple years after the Bach after I expanded the synth. One of the new modules is the Phaser/Flanger module that gives a nice transparency to the bass and other lines. I also implemented foot-pedal attenuators to compensate for the lack of touch-sensitive keyboards.

One of my ideas is to do a couple CDs to showcase the Aries. One CD would be Switched-on music that would include the entire Bach d-minor concerto, the entire Correlli concerto, and a new realization of the famous Bach d-minor Tocatta and Fugue (I have always wanted to tackle this one.)

The other CD would be original music that would explore more experimental/abstract music.

Well, what do you think? Shall I pursue this? Do you have any suggestions for repertoire?

Feel free to visit my web site: http://kevinkissinger.com -- I have additional downloads there. My latest is a transcription of a Cesar Franck work for Theremin and Aries synth.

I appreciate your comments and encouragement. Means a lot. Thanks!
