Question about the midi option on the TM-3.

The TM-3 can come w or w/out a midi option. Seems like w/option a midi device is embedded inside the unit affording it extra midi capabilities.

In a nutshell and simple please - what's the purpose of the TM-3 midi option?

Can the same capabilities be accomplished with outboard devices w/the non midi model?

Thanks,
Lee G.

if you have the midi option, you can plug a midi cable into the TM-3, and control the pitch of the oscillator by sending MIDI signals down this cable from a MIDI controller keyboard or a sequencer.

If you don't have the MIDI option in your TM-3 (i don't), and you want to control the pitch of the oscillator, you need to send a Hz/V control voltage signal to the unit. If you can do this, you already have modular equipment that can work with this standard.

If you want to control the unit with MIDI, and your TM-3 doesn't have the Midi option, you can use a MIDI-to-CV converter to convert the MIDI signals to the required Hz/V signal. Converters like the Kenton ProSolo and Future-Retro Mobius will do this. That's what I do.

Cheers
