My first 'hand crafted' physical model: a recorder.

Concept:
It's just a single tuned waveguide with cubic nonlinearity. I've added a jitter LFO to add some 'movement', and a 'breath noise' oscillator is also fed into the system. A tremolo function is also included.

Controls:
The model is intended to be played with MIDI breath control, which is assigned to Group8 morph. This mainly controls the feedback in the waveguide (and some other things...). Wheel controls tremolo.

I've made comprehensive knob assignments. But please keep in mind that tweaking physical models is an art in itself Wink (building the thing is far easier). That's why I've included a tuning oscillator to help tune your tweaks -if you want to.

Have fun.
tim

...an updated version:

Tremolo has been relegated to Aftertouch, and ModWheel now controls overblowing. This is modeled by an keytracked, modwheel-controlled low end dip EQ which gradually cancels out the fundamental, bringing upper harmonics into play.

Panel controls have been reworked a bit.

Sorry, no variations, again. I'm tired Wink

Tim,
On my setup, this patch only plays some key click sounds, there is no recorder pitch. I wonder if there is something I need to turn on. Any ideas?

Are you using a breath controller (or any other device that generates MIDI CC#02)? It was built for this.

I routed this MIDI controller to morph Group8.

Reroute Group8 to any other (unused) midi controller of choice (expression pedal or so) and it should work. I hope... scratch sorry.

Ahhh, read the directions! Rolling Eyes

Yes, now it works very nicely. I switched on poly mode to play from a keyboard.

Makes a nice Strawberry Fields Forever flute mellotron intoduction type sound. Cool

hee hee Laughing

...it sounds a little static if you use it like this, though. If you control the excitation with a breath controller and use aftertouch tremolo, the patch becomes much more expressive.

Nobody every accused the Mellotron of being expressive...

I don't have a breath controller. Can you upload an example?

I was joking Wink ...can't do a soundfile from here (at home)-not yet.

You can use a footcontroller too. It's really nice to dynamically influence the oscillation. Makes the patch really shine.

you can abuse it too for quite outlandish squeals- I'll try to come up with some variations soon.
