Well, there are many posts here and you should let people discover this topic on their own. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

i'm signed to a label who liked my mix of rock and electro. i think it's a mix that can work well and so far has seemed to have a good crossover appeal, although i'm playing more to "dance audiences" than i am to "rock audiences"... at least in terms of venues and times.
i was directly inpired by Two Lone Swordsmen's "from the chapel gone double", at least in terms of production. i personally think it's a difficult blend of genres to get right and i think it succeeds if you adopt the best qualities from each genre.
i try to get the swagger of rock'n'roll (try to bottle "it's only rock'n'roll but i like it" by the stones, or marc bolan's camp rocky prance, or Link Wray or Gun Club etc etc) with the more bouncy elements of electro/house/disco production. i've been listening to a lot of Abba recently, who also succeed in the crossover stakes a lot of the time.

Has anyone heard of NIN on here they are a good example of a rock electro hybrid. But maybe a bit to gothic for some tastes. |

i personally think that "the downward spiral" is a brilliant piece of production and a monumental labour of love. probably best summed up by Marilyn Manson in his [of the moment] autobiography...
[paraphrased from poor memory]
Quote: |
kurt cobain - you have some beautiful songs here, why'd you have to go and f*ck them up with computers
trent reznor - that's kinda the point |
the Canadian electro-industrialists Download (ne Skinny Puppy) quoted Charles Baudelaire on the inlay sleeve "the eyes of Stanley Pain". the quote summed up many aspects of music production i like (Abba included) in the simple phrase, "beauty without distortion lacks sensible appeal." _________________ there's no I in TEAM, so let's all act as individuals instead |

In electronics I don't feel restricted by any genre, so I also make things like this : Fear Facts 5

BTW I just plunged into the latest albums (okay, not so recent of a small Swedish Pop/Rock group named ABBA. In a way very interested concerning the use of synth sounds...

There's plenty of electro-rock on Numan's first two albums (Tubeway Army & Replicas)
Regurgitator did alot of electro-rock-punk on Unit and Tu Plang
Alot of Rob Zombie's solo stuff is in the same vein, a bit more guitar based, but there's heaps of programming and sequencers as well.
It's definitely a genre I love, when it's done well. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

My band is just getting some things together. Our website just went up. I'll post more here, especially once we have the CD's run, and I talk to Howard about selling a few through e-m.com. This first album was really a brain download for us, and every song has it's own thing separate from the other songs, hence the Lifestyles album name. I suppose that it should be considered electro-rock...

I came out of the world of playing in punk bands from '78 to '81. In about '81 I got strongly into the 'Baroque' period of 'Classical' and that opened my mind way up.
Composing wise - most of my influences in writing come from the earlier days of Skinny Puppy; Genesis; Ministry; Saga and the Sex Pistols with very strong hints of Killing Joke thrown in ...... unless I'm in a quieter mood then it's usually earlier Tangerine Dream and Jean Michel Jarre influencing. Across all of this as well are minor Baroque influences.
Whilst I'm primarily a keyboardist / sound designer now, if my tunes aren't ambient based, they're highly rhythmically influenced, including composition for multiple drummers often occurring.
Now - that I've been building a modular synth again since July 2005, I'll be applying those past years of experiences and influences in my modular and not much more than string machines; sampled choirs and vocoders outside of the modular itself, which will also be handling all of the percussion sounds.
Almost there. Just have to get a couple more sequencers finished and I'll finally be able to start composing on this beast. |

I didn't realise country and western could be blended to form any type of music. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |
