Bananalogue VCS diy board set available |
 |
|
Hi folks! I've decided to offer a VERY limited number (15) of Bananalogue VCS PCB sets to the synth DIY community. The set is four boards, three for components and pcb mount hardware with a fourth optional bridge board (you could opt to use fly wires if you want to play with different panel designs). Please note the following caveats BEFORE ordering from me:
1. these are an early revision of the Bananalogue VCS and the PCBs don't have any spare room vertically to squeeze into a frac/euro rack. we redesigned after this revision to allow more room between the rack rails - so please consider that.
2. i will not be offering ANY support or documentation for these PCBs, we simply don't have the time, so not a good project for beginners!
3. the PCBs have all the component values and placement silkscreened on them. if you have successfully built one of Ken Stone's CGS boards you should be familiar with this system. if you have NOT built a CGS board i would STRONGLY discourage you from starting here.
so, if you are still bold enough - email me with your shipping address and i will send you my paypal account. sets are $40 each, and shipping should be about $3 USA, $6 overseas
and they are a very pretty red:

we will continue making the VCS as a module.
the euro version of the LPFA is still a ways into the future, but we know people are very interested, so it'll happen.
no schematics with this project, sorry. |

1. are there any spacial or hard to find parts needed ?
2. are all the wirepoints named clear ? ( this is sometimes hard on Kens boards, and one needs to look to the schemas )
3. from the layout it is the same as the Manufactured module, so one could get help from a Friend who have the VCS ? |

1. you can find everything at mouser.com
2. there are only two components that are not pcb mounted, the cycle switch and the "cv slope both" jack
3. it only resembles it in color, the layout is completely different, but you might be able to figure it out by comparing. the components involved are exactly the same, just juggled around a bit to make it fit better in a frac/euro rack system. |

Hi Banaplug,
1. ) i need to know all the pot values ( this is urgent as a friend has a Mouser order open, so i can take them with him )
2. ) also if all trannys are 2N3906 or 2N3904 ?
3. and if the Trimmer is labeled with 100R or 100K
sorry, but those are not labelled or readable.
oh, and thanks for the Boards

>>1. ) i need to know all the pot values ( this is urgent as a friend has a Mouser order open, so i can take them with him )
no problem, i use 313-1510F-10K and 313-1600F-50K
thats 2x 10k log and 2x 50k lin with the built in pull switch
>>2. ) also if all trannys are 2N3906 or 2N3904 ?
both actually, if you look really close at the silkscreen you can see the NPN and PNP trannys are marked in schematic.
>>3. and if the Trimmer is labeled with 100R or 100K
100K
alrighty! i have just a feeeeeew more board sets if anyone else would like to jump on this! i'm an NOT one for hyperbole, but this module is one of the most flexible i have ever encountered.
best wishes

It's worth considering! I bought one set, these are really nice quality boards. Not built them yet, but it's a brilliant circuit also. If you've been on the fence about buying the regular VCS module, but can't quite afford it, here's your chance. Beautiful work.
Thanks again, Seth! |

So true! BTW the pots can be aquired from Small Bear Electronics for a better price. To my best knowledge their part #s are: 1010A and 1005B.
Thanks, Seth! |

Got 2 of them. Looking at the boards it seems to be a pretty straightforward job. All querries I had were answered by Seth's posting. However, in case of probs this thread will be the snag exchange, I guess. Last edited by Ilanode on Fri Jun 20, 2008 3:49 am; edited 1 time in total |

Thanks for the parts notes, Seth!
I got these boards too. I'll be building it over the next couple months probably, so I'll be watching this thread to compare notes. |

Still picking part and thought I was almost through when ordering these pots:
Bananalogue wrote: | i use 313-1510F-10K and 313-1600F-50K |
Now I've to realize that they won't fit onto the board. At their end they have a small flat shaped pin to the PSB to stabalize the pot. However, the board wants up to 5 tiny pins at the this place!
No what? Bowing off the "flat shaped pin"? Sawing it off? Enlarging the tiny holes on the board itself so the "flat shaped pin" will fit? And if so how to achieve that? |

I own 2 VCS from Banalogue (built by Seth I assume) and on both of them that last pin is either bent outward (so that it does not connect to anything) OR it had been trimmed off.
You have the right part.

I would clip the tab before installing the pot. Just use wire snips or tinn snips, no saw needed.
