A6 Dubstep thread Subject description: Everything about A6 and Dubstep |
 |

I thought I'd like to make a dedicated A6 Dubstep thread since we were jacking another thread in this forum with our dubstep discussion.
I hope it's ok I have quoted you guys.

BTW I got a little help from Banga
On youtube there's a video of him showing how to make such a bass on an Albino soft synth. I was quite surprised to see that he was making those insane basses on a softsynth!
This one:

Yeah, Benga's tutorial is interesting, but I would say that most if not all DubStep is 100% computer and soft synth. it's pretty astounding because the sounds are very full of character and are exploited for tone. I was equally shocked with a lot of the minimal techno stuff that exploits great character of sound in a very open space, some of it rich in analog character, until you find out it's a soft synth, or a microkorg!!!
I've been loving making DubStep Basses on the A6 lately. they're fairly easy so it's fun to go nuts with extra stuff you can liven them up with.
I have found that LFO modulation of the filter can at some settings have a bit of a break apart sound at the extreme swings of the sine wave LFO. Like the resolution steps or something, and you can hear it at high frequencies. But it's only on certain patches, so it might be something in the sound, mix levels, RM, etc that the LFO then reveals.
One thing is for sure, these guys are really juicing these softsynths! |

I saw Benga and Skream at this years Roskilde Festival in Denmark and it was great though they mostly played Benga's tracks.
But Skream played here ealier this year. Do you have a lot of dubstep artists playing in NY?
Yes when you've made that wobble bass you can e.g. turn up the sub osc to add some fat sub to the bass.
At first I couldn't make it work because I used typical analog waveforms but then I tried to make some "digital" ones
using the hard sync and then I got closer I think. I'll post some demo later today. I'd like to get your opinion. |

Yeah, lots of Dubstep in NY, the big party is once a month, but every weekend you can get to a party where some is being played. Lots of the UK guys come through, seen Skream, Vex'd, DMZ (Mala, pokes), Loefah, Caspa, a bunch of them. it's gaining a lot of ground, the dancefloors are getting too packed!
For a more digital sound turn up the pre filter osc mix, and for the sub element I really like just turning the OSC way low and using the post filter sine, then you can go sick on the warping of the wobble and still have the sub note. Although the Sub won't wobble unless you mod the post filter mix knob.
Did you see Benga's technique of using multiple instances of a soft synth with different LFO rates, then splitting up the B line between the different instances?
I may have to try that with multiple patches in multimode, as fun as realtime LFO modulation is, it would be fun to try it this way too. Then modding one patch would only affect certain notes of the B line.
Clever chap! |

Rather long but I'm tweaking the knobs to get different timbres. |
did you ever put up the syx file for this patch? |
