Here's the first working prototype for my microtonal keyboard...

The full thing will be laid out like this - purpose-designed for 31 notes per octave, using a midi encoder circuit from MGB.

So far I've just built 2 rows of keys - enough to see that gluing it all together is going to cause problems when repairs are needed. So next time I think I'll have each row of keys bolted to a thin plastic or plywood beam that runs all the way from top to bottom, under and inside the moving keys. That way you can see all the microswitch solder terminals from the bottom without having to take individual keys off.

The key action is very light and a bit clicky due to using microswitches, but it's definitely begining to work...

Apologies for photo quality - my only camera is the one in my phone...

Gordon

Well, I wasn't brave enough to fork out 4 or 8 times the money, for any of the ready-made exotic keyboards that I've seen on the internet...

Still, thanks to you Carlo and other forum members for your suggestions. Just a shame I couldn't have played any of them in a shop first, so see what they were really like. Then it might have been different.

Anyway, I like a crazy project from time to time, and having already put nearly all the money down, I've got a good incentive to finish it!
