Hey folks, I am in the chatroom now with ScottG and he had this cool idea for an additive synth that makes drones for space music. It's eight harmonics of sine wave amplitude modulated by a 1Hz filtered noise source every sample. It sounds really cool, though it is certainly a CPU hog.

Anyway I'm right now broadcasting the sound that it makes on my port of EM radio station, and Scott is listening. I can talk to him via the adc on top of the drone. If you don't have headphones, remove the adc => dac; line and you won't get a feedback squalch.

Enjoy the space music - it sounds like the mothership in flight!

Les

This one is even better. It only uses prime harmonics.

Les

p.s. not a cpu hog anymore...

Demo of the program - it records now! Too much of my cheezy voice over the music, but whatever.

Scott had me add FM modulation in addition to the AM modulation, and it sounds even better. It's a real CPU hog though, maybe try uincreasing the update interval.

Got you two another drone I usually use in many shows. Easy to set up. FM-style with reverb.

Code:
48 => float BaseNote;

TriOsc a => Gain a_g => SinOsc b => BPF b_f => NRev rev => Dyno limiter => dac; // Main Generator
3 => a_g.op;
BaseNote => Std.mtof => b.freq;
2 => b.sync;
2 => rev.gain;
.9 => rev.mix;
limiter.limit();
999999 => limiter.ratio;
.25 => limiter.gain;

TriOsc c => a_g; // LFO
.04 => c.freq;

b.freq() * .25 => a.freq;
b.freq() * 1.5 => a.gain;

4 => b_f.Q;

while(true)
{
    (c.last() + 8) * b.freq() => b_f.freq;
    ms => now;
}

Nice refinements, Les; thanks for your chuck script, Kijjaz. They still still have unwanted noise on my XP, so I am interested to know from Scott if they will work on a 500MHz processor system. Thanks for starting this thread, guys. Steve

Steve, to see if it is the cpu, try reducing the number of harmonics and increasing the udate rate. The noise should go away. It is possible the noise is due to clipping or CPU, could be either or both.

Les
