Me too. But we might have streaming, at least it's not in the too distant future. Once we get it working we can have streams from other places, like your studio. Very Happy

If I didn't have to work that day, I think I might make the trip up.

Hi Mark,

I'm sure that we'd find you a place to stay if you could have made it. Perhaps you won't have to work during a future Electro-Jam.
Besides me, who else intends to be there?

Keep me posted for future jams. I'll take you up on your offer, Bill. It's a long way from Tennessee, but I think the trip, music and comraderie would be worth it.

By the way, how do I tell people to listen to the stream?
Should I be telling people to listen in?

Cheers,

I hope it works well. The bandwidth has been managed to give the streams priority.. and excessive services have been strangled.

Electro-Music jam #1 was held yesterday at chez Mosc in Allentown PA.
There were six of us there, plus Mosc's wife Julie.
{mosc, egw, gsga, djfoxyfox, zynthetix, and jack}
Unfortunately the streaming wasn't working, but we had a great session.
Maybe mosc will post some of the photos.
I really enjoy this kind of session, each musician brings something unique and it's always different and interesting. The music ranged from noise collage to subtle tone poems, with some rythmic stuff in between. Sometimes all six of us were playing, sometimes only two or three. Julie joined us for a while on the theremin.
It was all freely improvised, I don't recall any discussion at all about what to play, it just seemed to flow. I felt there were some truly sublime moments.
Mosc recorded some of it on minidisc. Maybe he'll make an mp3 of some highlights. Of course after what I thought was one of the best parts, he said the minidisc had already stopped.
By the way there were five! Nord G2s in attendance. So there was also lots of discussion about patching, gear and playing styles.
I hope that we can do this again soon.

I had a great time too, inspite of a bunch of technical problems getting the recordings to work. I'm having computer problems here so it may be a while before I can uplink some pics, and even longer before uplinking some mp3s, but I will do my best to do it. When we get the streaming, these kind of jams can become international events. It should even be possible to have jams in several places simultaniously and alternate streamed sets.

Anyhow, it was great to get together with people who love electronic music and just do it. The outcome isn't as important as the process, but like Greg said, there were times where we certainly made beautiful music together.

Thanks to all those who came.

I encourage people in other places to host electro-jams. Announce them and document them here.

Yes, Zynth had to use a chair for his G2, but it worked out fine. The Roland speaker/amps worked swimmingly as a PA in such a small space. It sounded great. We ran all 6 setups through a Behringer 12 channel mixer - nothing to spare. We were sorta in a circle facing the center with the mixer in the center so as to be close to everyone. We set all the gains at unity and nobody touched the mixer all night. One of the amazing things was that the mix was always just right, all night.

My wife, Juli, even played the Theremin processed though my G2. It was lovely.

Sorta yes and sorta no. I find that when I'm in the company of people who listen twice and play once (or as Tim Walters says, "Listen three times and don't play at all."), a unity gain mix works quite well. Once the urge to show off passes and egos get fed by the group effort instead of personal contributions, things work great. Ricochet Dreams, Different Skies and now Electro-jam are proof of the pudding!

It was a great time. Thanks to Howard and Juli for hosting. Thanks to Jack for coming from Florida. Thanks to Dave for bringing such interesting toys. Thanks to Travis for chaotic sounds. Thanks to Greg for demo-ing his rig.

Cheers,

I agree with Bill. Mixing has never been as issue for me when playing with musicians who check their ego, listen, play with some sensitivity, and strive to enhance the group experience. The music is usually better too!

We all have egos, we just learn how to not get to attached to them. Very Happy

Anyway, I posted the first mp3. It is an attachment to the first post in this topic. I used a very low bitrate, 48 khz because people on dialups might want to listen. Certainly the higher bit rates sound better, but you can still get the idea.
