Uwe Gronau - Midsummer - CD Review - myspace.com/uwegronaumusic or uwe-gronau.de

The artist is a top German musician. One unusual aspect that contributed to the creation of the great music on MIDSUMMER is that it was influenced and inspired by the teachings of Ludwig Wittgenstein, one of the world’s greatest philosophers, who studied the relationship between reality and thought. The act of thinking is reality, but what you think may not be. Wittgenstein said new music becomes a new part of our language, and he basically trusted instrumental music to serve as true communication more than speaking. Gronau puts that concept into action.

But putting the psychological ramifications aside for a moment (and I admit to simplifying the teachings of a philosopher who many claim was a genius), simply listen to Gronau’s music and see if it speaks to you. There are upbeat ensemble tunes as well melodic solo piano pieces, plus a few spacey, ethereal, synth dreams.

Gronau is a master of creating moods and mystical feelings. Join the journey and let the music sweep you away. Also note that Disc One sounds considerably different than the softer Disc Two.

Gronau plays acoustic piano exquisitely, but also is a keyboard synth whiz, and with 35 tunes in this collection, he gives you plenty of both styles to satisfy. He also plays a little organ and brings in a couple of special guest electric guitarists on a few tracks, and in addition you hear the occasional sound of flute, English horn, acoustic guitar, sitar, strings and harp.

There is so much music here that the first listen is a pretty big gulp, but after a few times through certain tracks begin to emerge and it quickly becomes apparent what a talent this keyboard man is. Recommended for lovers of new age music that covers a lot of ground.
