currently 17% decided not to have the same count of each.
currently 56% decided to have 2 of each.

so it might be logical to have 2 VCOs and 2 waveshapers on one PCB!?

having them on seperate PCBs offers more freedom, which some obviously want to use. Very Happy
not doing a complete re-design and a new test build, but offering the PCBs as they are, offers me more freedom, which i want to use. Laughing
YMMV

Hi,

it is essential which 4046 you use. refer to scott's site:

i tried an ON Semiconductor MC14046BCP first and could not get it scaled correctly. it fell short of about 1/4 tone per octave.
i then tried the NXP part and scaled the VCO within 5 minutes using an LFO and a quantizer.

I have 3 Motorola MC14046 in hand,seems I´m lucky. jackson dancing

Thanks for sharing your fpd.-file! thumright

Btw,I´m absolutely fine having separated vco/shaper boards,no problem here. Prototyping is done, the layouts are ready for manufacturing, why doing this all again? Just my 2cent.

Cheers

Damn, why 2 pcb's when you simply can merge both on one and manufacture it for the same price...

Probably 'cause some people (like me) intend to order some of the waveshapers separately so that they can use them elsewhere. I hate building PCBs from scratch so if there's a waveshaper that'll take a tri and convert it into sine/pusle/pwm...why the heck not order some for use in other projects?

You have to quote my whole post not just a part of it,then there is no reason..

You seriously expect me to read your ENTIRE post before responding with my gut reaction? geek Silly hooman!

(You could have posted your points all in one post, then done another post with just the latter part so people who didn't want to read the whole post in one go could read it separately....[joke])

I need more oscillators like I need more holes in my head, but put me down for 4 sets (4 VCO, 4 waveshaper) anyway.

Hi Fonik,

did you use lm394 instead of 3904? Not a bad thing of course, only a little hard to source...but SSM2210 or MAT02 also should work I think.

Have 3x metal-can 394s in my partbox at home, hope they will fit somehow...

Ist there a BOM already available?

Cheers
Greg

i think your original logic is sound, in terms of allowing flexibility. if you were just starting, maybe combining a single vco & waveshaper makes sense, but maybe not a dual of both, imo. BUT if sticking with what you have works best for you, get's boards in our hands quicker, and frees you up to create more great projects, i say go for it.

thanks as always for your great contributions to both my synth my unfinished project pile.

RE matched pairs: anything would work, just watch the pinout.

RE BOM: the labels follow Thomas' original schematic, so actually you should be good by using the original documentation. however, there are some additional connectors (two PCBs), and i will write up something soon.

4 x 2.1 in
+
2 x 2.1 in
=
6 x 2.1 in

(which fit well behind the 24TE panel)
