Tonight or any other night, I'm thinking of doing some late night jamming. This wiil include a mix of ChucK music, vocals, and live coding. We can use Skype to bring in other's voices eventually as well. By late night, i mean after the regular programs end and on into the morning if we feel like it.

The jams will be done on the public channel for now.

If you are interested, come into the chat and say hi!

Audiodef and I jammed for an hour or so last night, then this morning I used a newly recoded version of the Late Night Jam Morpher program to remix the first five minutes of the recently released Code-11 EP. Here it is for your enjoyment.

Interestingly the circuitry to create something like this is not too extensive...

You're very welcome kevin, and many more to follow... I'm getting into these jams and jammed twice today in the earlier hours. It's amazing what a little creativity will do for your inspiration (or is that the other way around?).

Les

So if you're reading this... chat, then jam!!!

We know there are problems. We are 1/2 way through migrating to a new server. Have patience, don't go away, all will be better relatively soon.

The latest morpher i've written is sort of a guitar that's played by a song. It has 16 strings so it's a wide guitar, and each string is driven by a band-passed frequency bin. it sounds pretty cool and actually mimics the beat of the input song!

Yup, that one sounded nice!

It reminded of the speaking piano BTW. Basically the same idea, sample sound let it go through a set of bandpass filters and use the outputs to play the strings.

Yep and thanks for your suggestions Jan, they quickly improved it a lot. It's funny, you work on something like that for hours and you get lost in the details but a second pair of ears can really help! Ears with a programmer's brain in between the to boot (and a musician's)...

OK, tonight I plan to, like as soon as I log in after typing this post, expand that same program to include both guitar and drums. I figure I can make a six-string guitar and a set of drums since Karplus Strong does both string synthesis and percussion. I'll try anyway, we will see how it goes...

Stop on by the chat if interested...

So far tonight's big success was creating a feedback tamer, shown below in ChucK code:

Code:
adc => Gain feedback => Gain div => dac;
4 => div.op;
feedback => FullRect fwr => LPF lpf => Gain sum => div;
100 => lpf.freq;
Step bias => sum;
1 => bias.next;

while (true)
{
    <<<sum>>>;
    10::second => now;
}

With this code I can send music out the speakers and talk into the mic at the same time and not get any feedback wailing!

wow, that's nice because it opens up a whole holt of applications including the ability to inject sound into the feedback loop freely via guitar, bell,vlice, or whatever else is desired. The late night experimenting has paid off this time!

Just reading this code makes me think I should learn ChucK. It doesn't look very hard.

Chuck can be quite easy or as difficult as you like, depending on what you decide to do... so keep it simple and ChucK will be easy!
