Wife and I were out riding the Triumph Bonneville around the autumn painted hills today. In my head was this theme I'd been noodling around with. When I got home from the ride I knew what I wanted to do with it.

I did a multi-track version with bass and a lead line and hated it. Anything I added to the basic theme seemed to detract from it.

I did a couple of "precise" versions and a few highly interpretive versions. The one I post here is a compromise between straight metered playing and overly cloying melodrama.

I cheated sonically by using a preset (gasp) on a yamaha psr-520.

Did Chuang Tzu dream he was a butterfly or did a butterfly dream he was Chuang Tzu?

EDIT NOTE I just replaced the "original" with another version. I've replaced the version on my website twice. I have now recorded this very simple piece at least a dozen times and never seem perfectly satisfied with it. I'm going to leave this one alone but I might keep changing it on my website until... ?

There's more of my music at aejotz.com
