Subject description: Is the workflow similar with a MIDI controller to what we have with a regular G2?

Hi

I was wondering... how good is the workflow of a G2 Engine when using a decent MIDI controller (like a Novation Remote SL Zero or a Behringer BCR2000)?
Does it match the keyboard workflow, or it isn't even close?
What is lost with that kind of setup?

Thanks in advance
Best

Paulo

The G2 can be used in many different ways. I usually keep it connected to a computer and control it from there. Sometimes I've set it up so I can control it from a BCR, but that usually takes a bit of practice, getting to know which knob goes where.

I've also used it as a preset synth, controlled by a keyboard, which worked great.

I usually program the basic sounds on the computer as well, but when it comes to tweak the sounds while playing, I always use the interface of my G2X.

I got a G2 Engine a while ago but haven't yet tried to use my Novation Remote SL Zero to control it (I'm a bit busy preparing my NYE set for saturday Razz), but was wondering if I would be able to get a similar workflow...

The things I image will be worse using the Novation to control the G2 will be no light to show the LFO speed and no lights indicating which step of the sequencer is active, right?
Will there be any other downside to it, or can I pretty much do everything else?

And if I try using an iPad instead?

Yeah the lights won't be there, and no lcd displays either. Also, you won't have the paged parameter matrix, that enables you to have a knob setup in your G2 patch that matches every controller - something I would have loved to be able to imitate on the BCR.

Best is to have a fixed midi setup on the controller and use those cc numbers in all of your patches - some nuisance if you like to use presets or other people's patches.

I missed that you had experience with the keyboard versions, sorry.

You could do a bit more with the iPad and the lemur app than the BCR though.

I LOVE my G2 but I never touch the keys.
I really wish they'd done a version without them like the G1.

I'm on a slow lookout for an Engine which I can play live with and have been looking for the best MIDI controller for it. Of course the one I want is the Bitstream 3X -shakes fist-

Have seen that old Peavy unit too.
I don't like the iPad though, even though I know you could build a beutiful interface I want knobs damn it!
