Subject description: noises while turning the RES POT

Hello Yves, Hello Forum,

I build 2 times Steiner VCF in the CA3096 Version(some years ago).

They are working fine, exept the RES POTs.

I hear heavy noises while turning the RES POT and the sounds turns off for a while (as you hear in the mp3).

I try serveral POTs over the time, always with the same result --> so i think i made something wrong while soldering.

Maybe you or somebody who build this filter know the problem and can help?

thanks in advance
fantozzi

No unfortunately it is due to the design of the filter itself , the resonance loop in this circuit controls at the same time the gain of the output and is very sensitive to the least imperfection of a carbon track. You must use a very good quality potentiometer (preferably of the plastic track kind).

Hi, perhaps the info at this thread related to the CGS version would be useful? I assume it's equally relevant to all the Steiner variations.

Good to know about the pot tracks, incidentally. Someday I hope to buy some nicer 1k pots, which would apparently help here.
