Soul Windows--Latest Ableton attempt |
|
|
Hi! I guess it is time I uploaded something. I have spent the last 3 years trying to learn Reason, Ableton, how to play keyboard, the Electribe, the X-station and the SLMKII MIDI controller. (did I forget anything)? So that is my excuse for not having time to produce tight, finished-sounding tracks.
I still haven't mastered Ableton's Arrange mode, but I have been slogging away at it. Here is my latest attempt.
This track includes a clip of the 17-year cicadas that hatched in 04--a sound so spacy and haunting that it was the inspiration for me to learn recording. So the cicadas were actually the first impetus that resulted in me getting into electronica. (That is why I have a cicada tattoo on my arm.)
I would love to be able to produce crisp, tight compositions. Alas, my composing ends up being more 'loose, messy, spontaneous, imperfect and jam-like". I guess I should just accept what I am.
Musically, I hover between "music with a tune" and "something trippy". I am fascinated with ambiguity in music, as in 'songs that aren't quite major or minor, songs where the key is ambiguous, and songs that never quite resolve." I strive to produce music that is spacy and imaginative, while at the same time a certain amount of structure is preserved so that it doesn't all become one mass.

I've heard the things you did with that too, and my first response on listening to this one was that this sounded like a nice abstraction from that cicadas stuff .. had no idea there was a real one in it (before reading up on it).
Nice track Laura! _________________ Jan
