Nord G2 Engine + Controller vs Eventide Stompboxes? |
|
|
Hi all
How does the Nord Modular G2 compares with the Eventide stompboxes?
I recently got a ModFactor and it seems pretty cool, but am wondering if I can't get similar results with my Nord Modular G2.
My main aim to get these stompboxes is to use with smaller setups and hopefully live situations soon, but the Nord Modular G2 Engine I have is quite compact too, so I was thinking maybe I should give up on my ModFactor, especially since I have an Eventide H3000D/SX in my studio (together with other top rack-mount processors).
Should I get similar quality with the G2?
I haven't been able to test both together, but since I am start GASing for more Eventide stompboxes, thought it would be wise to ask this to see my GAS is a bit reduced...
Thanks in advance,
Best

In my (limited) experience, no. The g2 easily emulates the traditional synth architecture. But I have ususally had to go to my Kyma to get close to Eventide style stuff. Trying to do the same with the g2 feels like trying to do a fine tapestrry with yarn made to make a sweater. There is not enough nuance , going to kyma makes the job *somewhat* easier. I love my g2 to death but would not select it as the tool of choice for emulating various digital boxes. |

I wouldn't need the G2 for delays as I just got a second Symetrix 606 and those are pretty compact to fit in a small setup.
Not sure if that makes a big difference, as the G2 doesn't allow for quite long delays...
Looking at my ModFactor, none of the effects seem to be too complicated, but if I am to keep it, I think it would be nice to get another pedal (most likely a PitchFactor as those are easier to find second hand and cheaper).
The thing is, for the price of that one plus the amount my ModFactor should be worth, I should get close to the amount needed for a better Eventide rackmount unit, which makes me think if it's wiser to keep both...
But quality is important and would like my small setup to have that too.
But tomorrow I'll get back home and will give my ModFactor a proper try and will have the chance to try my Eventide H3000D/SX too and hope it won't be too hard to make a decision
And thanks a lot for your reply |
