This was made with the two new additions to my mad-scientist-laboratory: Korg Microsampler and Arturia Minibrute.

First I loaded all the best percussion sounds from my Yamaha PSR-520 and Microkorg into the Microsampler. Then I played the percussion on the keys while recording and quantizing into the Microsampler's sequencer. (In this way I still play the parts by hand but use technology to compensate for my less-than-accurate timing. The technical term for this process is "cheating.") I recorded the perfectly quantized percussion loop onto my Boss BR-600 recorder as track one.

Then I warmed up the Minibrute and added melodic layers. The "solo" is played on a single key while employing the pitch wheel. You can't get much more minimal than that. The sound reminded me of a pesky flying insect, hence the title of the tune.

I absolutely love the new boards. They are both fun and easy to use. I traded my Alesis Micron for the Microsampler and I couldn't be happier about it. I never did get along with the Micron.
