Here's a quick technical description of how the LED Display module works: Each of the six input pins are connected to an opamp current source that drives a calibrated current of Vin/R into a surface mount LED at the top of the board. This module will soon be available in our store.
The LED Display module is designed to work together with other emSynth modules. Most modules have Ground, VDD, and six signal pins and so does the LED Display module. Due to the pin assignments being the same, this means that all you have to do is place an LED Display Module in parallel with any other 8-pin emSynth module and all of the signal pin votlages will be displayed on the LEDs!
In addition to that, the LEDs are driven by voltage to current converters. What that does is produce a linear output intensity in direct proportion to the signal voltage. This is preferable over the simpler approach of using a resistor in series with each LED because the brightness of the LEDs exactly indicates the applied voltage. Also the high input impedance of the opamps means that the LEDs will not load the signals down or alter them in any way.
Most of us will want to order just a few LED Display modules, however some love dazzling light shows and will get an LED module to pair up with every other module they have (and at these low prices, why not?).
