Jupiter is making its closest approach to Earth since 1963. The article says it is already visible... I'm a big fan of seeing planets without a telescope, particularly Venus on an early morning (or after a late night).

I've been watching it for weeks now... It's a beautiful site with or without telescope. Even with a small pair of binoculars you can see the four largest moons (depending on which ones are hidden behind the planet) It's worth a few minutes any clear evening.
