Editor feature to stop variation changes from incoming MIDI |
 |
|
When I work on patches that receive variation changes over MIDI I would like to have a button in the editor that could stop such messages to variate.
Having such a feature would make it easier to get the variations OK before they jump to away., things get really messy sometimes now.

Yes, this would make patching easier, or at least make debugging patches easier. _________________ --Howard

IMO it should just disable external variation changes that come in over MIDI CC 70 while the variation changes from the front panel or the editor should still work.
Sometimes it's not so easy to quickly find the source for the CC 70 messages and when found it involves breaking up some cabling (or inserting a switch) to stop it when it comes from some other G2 patch. The messages could also be from external equipment of course.
Maybe some more general MIDI filtering could be implemented, but the variations jumping away while tweaking them are a nuisance really but I still try nevertheless as stopping it at the sender side is a nuisance as well.

Perhaps an extra toggle button in the patch settings? Or a checkmark in the Synth settings dialog, so global for all slots? |

It should preferably be per patch, in the patch settings would be OK but preferably four toggles of some sort on the toolbar.
Don't know though whether my personal needs would justify something on the toolbar :-) ... but there /is/ some unused space on it right next to the cable toggles ....

Yes, I think it should be per patch, so in a performance some slots could be enabled and others not. To me, debugging performances is where this would be the most handy. _________________ --Howard

| Well what if it was like everything else in the editor? You could just assign whatever MIDI message you want to the Variations. That would solve both our problems (see "Exend Variation Control"). |
