Howdy, y'all. My name's Herbert. Sometimes people also call me Quintus. I have a thing for video game music. The stuff I write isn't strictly 8-bit or 16-bit in that it doesn't stick to the sine / square / static / sample formula - it's most certainly video game music in spirit, though. Here are a few links:

Albert - MOUS3 Unit 38
Nice When You Can Get It
Waterlogged

I'm always very interested in feedback and advice. Thanks much for the listen.

very beautiful, gentle IDM sounds, done with with a keen ear for form. developmental, timeless.

the complete antithesis of astroid power-up. i'd love for you to do a remix. let me know what you need.

Danke. Appreciate the feedback.

About that remix: After listening to the rest of what's available on CDBaby, I think I'd like to take a stab at Into the Woods. What kind of software do you use? Also, how comfortable are you with transfering large files over the internet?

My software utility belt is pretty minimal at present, so I might just want to get the WAVs of the individual recordings from you, if you've got a place you can upload them to or if you'd would like to transfer them over AIM or something. If your connection isn't up to the task, there's always the possability of a CDR exchange via the postal service.

We can talk on AIM or in email if you like.

Q- i think snail mail's gonna be the way to go. my recording techniques were barbaric at best, and my files tend to be massive.

blanomus- i actually have no idea about genre either. i have heard this style called "microsound," "glitch," or "lo-fi," but IDM is the catchall term-"intelligent dance music." it was originally used to describe Aphex Twin, but gets thrown around a lot. in my experience, microsound has been used for pop more (bjork, for instance), glitch is a harder, less accessible genre, lo-fi usually sounds like 8-bit videogame hiphop, and IDM tends to be more introspective and rounder.

Just got a chance to listen to the tracks. I like them. I wouldn't call this IDM, but maybe experimental IDM Wink

Anyway, nice stuff indeed.

Hey, keep us informed on this collaboration. I'd love to hear what comes of it.

For anyone who is confused about or unfamiliar with the term IDM, we had a good debate on the matter here.

By the way, I like your music, "Nice when you get it" is very pretty. I hear the video game music influence and I like the technological sophistication you've added to the sound as well.
