Instrument Definition for Nord Modular G2 |
|
|
Hello.
Can anyone help me out with an Instrument Definition (Ins.File) for the Clavia Nord Modular G2? I would like to use this with Cakewalks Sonar 3 PE.
Take care,
Brady |

Hi, Brady, welecome to electro-music.com
I'm have a G2 and Sonar 3, but I'm not sure what you want. I don't create inst files in Sonar. I just use the GM one that comes with it. My understanding, very possibly wrong, is that this just maps programs with names. So, if you used one with a G2, it would have to be customize for the patches you have loaded. Please let me know if I'm missing something. |

Instrument Definition for Clavia Nord Modular G2 |

Dear my friend.
Thanks for replying to my message. My English isn't very good, but hopefully you will understand what I mean.
Firstly, it's good to hear, that you are using your Modular G2 together with Sonar 3, too. If I understand you right, than you got an Instrument Definition for the G2 together with the Keyboard ... or did you get it together with Sonar?
I ordered my G2 last week and will hopefully receive it from my dealer until the next 2 or 3 days.
I bought a Yamaha Motif Rack end of last year and it was very difficult to work with it in Sonar 3. So I searched very long for an Instrument Definition for the Motif Rack and found one in the web. After I installed the Ins.File in the Sonar Directory, I started to switch between the presets and pachtes of the Motif Rack in the MIDI track parameters of Sonar. That's quite easy and very helpful.
That's why I started looking for an Instrument Definition for the Modular G2 before I get it from my Dealer.
If you have the chance to email me your Ins.File, you could make me pretty happy. If there's a chance ... please email it to the following address: thomaswacker@aol.com
Until now, I would like to say again thank you for your reply and for your kindness and understanding.
Take care my friend,
Brady |

I found this guide on building instrument definitions yesterday:
http://www.tweakheadz.com/how_to_build_a_cakewalk_ins_file.htm
It is pretty understandable, I recommend reading it and opening a few .ins files to see the structures.
I would have started an .ins file for you, but I am unaware of the G2's bank select method and I am away from my G2 this week. If you still have trouble, maybe I can help out with the file next week when I'm home. Regardless, check out the link, you will have to understand .ins files for cakewalk to read the names of your own custom patches. |

Thanks for posting that link, Zynth.
Brady, pehaps I wasn't clear, I do not use instrument definitions with Sonar. Perhaps I should, but I just have not seen the need for it yet.
The G2 really doesn't have presets. It comes with some factory patches pre loaded, but they are really just examples. Some are suitable for use, but most G2 users either use their own patches, or patches they get from other users, via the electro-music.com G2 patch archive, of from the nord-modular email list, which BTW, is moving to electro-music.com very soon. |
