Hi all,

I love my Korg Lambda but it's not midi, do you think the G2 could emulate the Lambda string "chorus" ?

Perhaps you already have a patch like this ? Wink

Thanks a lot for help !

Hi a-grume

I tracked down the schematics and some samples on the web.

It was an interesting design, no BBD chorus like it's contemporaries. Instead it uses a three phase lfo to modulate three oscillators that each go to a top octave divider.

This is different to a typical 3 phase chorus which mixes the original signal with the three modulated ones. I think that the string tabs only use two of the three available phases.

The only vcf is reserved for the brass stop, all the other stops use a simple fixed BP and LP filter.

I tried to come up with a patch but it did not sound very close to the samples so I didn't post it.

To be honest, I didn't much like the sound of the samples so was not too enthusiastic. Perhaps you have some better samples that illustrate what you like about the sound?

Regards

Ian

Embarassed I missed page six of the schematics, it does have a chorus (in addition to the three phase master osc modulation).

Back to patching.

Still interested in a good quality sample, single notes preferred Smile

Here we go

Although the organ style dividers produce only square waves, different footages are summed to produce an stepped approximation of a sawtooth so I use sawtooth as the starting point in the poly area.

A three phase modulation is in the FX area and applied to the VA via internal midi so the slot values should be changed if you load into a slot other than A. Note that the FM level knob is being modulated which sort of gives a non Octave/V FM.

The output section is just a couple of filters and the final chorus.

This is just the string part of the ensemble section but might be useful for a starting point. It sounds quite nice and uses little DSP and Memory.

Edit: forgot to connect third LFO to sync and master rate and adjust phase, uploaded fix.
