Mike,

I've seen you perform a few times now. On stage, you have very little equipment. What do you use to create your music? Is it mostly pre-composed and pre-recorded? Do you use looping playback software? Do you use effects during live performance?

Just curious.

Most musicians have tons of equipment. Being an equipment junkie, I can pretty much figure out their methodology by scoping out their gear.

live i usually use my laptop, synths, glockespiel, melodica, flute and other FX boxes.
from the laptop, i use fruity loops to play sequenced loops. it's good because i can mute out and apply FX in real time to any track. i can also trigger samples live from fruity loops. i also use a program called BacktoBasics which allows you to use your computer keyboard to trigger samples like you were using a real sampler.
my main synth is a nord lead 2. the best thing about the nord for live stuff, esp. in the ambient realm, is that it has 4 seperate banks that can be played simultanously. so you can have 4 different arps or long sustained notes playing at the same time.

Ahh hah,

Thanks for that explaination. So you really have a lot running on the laptop, not just replays of prerecorded material. I guess with a software based sampler, you can have very long samples too. Also, I didn't realize you had a Nord Lead 2 on stage. (Too busy taking pictures to see anything Very Happy ) I'm a devoted lover of the Nord Modular.

So, when you are running in a live situation, how many tracks are you using at once? Sounds like six or more.
