they've started selling ringtones of my music. i'm not sure how i feel about that.

certainly in England it's not uncommon to have "hooded youths" walking about with their favourite mp3's blasting out from it. especially on buses for some reason...

i really despair. in my day we used ghetto blasters. kids can't even do anti-social these days.

I don't have a mobile Laughing but when I would have one the ring tone would be self made and gentle. Actually that's the one and only interesting thing about mobiles to me ... the ring tones ... I mean and the weird stuff people come up with sometimes.

That must be irritating ... you should maybe offer to make mini-musics specifically for being used as ring tones ...

Should the electro-music shop sell ring tones made by members?

Back when Jumpstyle (a bit like Gabber, except slower and less freaked out) was hot I'd see groups of early-teens place a mobile phone on a bench and dance around it. I thought that was kinda cool, like the ultimate in DIY parties.

I wanted to make a ringtone myself but it turned out you needed to install some program on your PC to do it so I lost interest. What would be cool though would be a little program that would blast out random ringtones from a set of popular and default ones and observe people get that funny pavlov reaction Might be a cool installation.

In my innocence I thought it would be as simple as downloading an mp3 somewhere, or mail it to your phone, or beam it up over blue tooth or a cable maybe even ... not? So they sell you the toy and you can't use it, right ...

Shocked Very Happy Very Happy Laughing

This is probably a state-side thing, but there's this old TV show for kids called Sesame Street. I use a sample from there, from the yip yips. (google yip yips on youtube, if you must).

Yeah, BT or IR or a cable... but the beaming needed a program and I think some sort of file conversion or whatever.

...Then I got a bit suspicious, I don't really like companies like Nokia and feared it'd install some auto-booting program that would infest half the system and be tricky to remove.

A couple of weeks ago, I was with some of my family in an Alabama trailer park, and they were sitting around comparing ring tones.

My phone just rings. Like a phone.

Nice to see we're a gentle bunch. Smile I actually have issues with this. I use something gentle and home-made, but I often don't hear it, and I don't feel the vibration either. I have several friends who use ringtones that scare the shit out of me every time (though I'm easily startled and annoyed by ambient noise). How to find that magic point in between...

I work at a place that makes mobiles, which has the nice side effect that at lot of the people use newly flashed phones with the default ring tone - you get used to it and it blends into the background.

/Stefan
