I've been using Service Pack 3 with my G2 since it came out, with no problems at all.

I would be more inclined to suspect the drivers for your sound card, and would start by installing the latest versions of those drivers.

Maybe set the voice count higher for the G2 patch.

Just click it up in the editor tool bar, likely it can be done from the keys version of the synth as well, but I don't know how. Anyway, it the voice count determines how many notes a patch can play simultaneously.

Hold down the gray "Shift" button and, while you are doing that, press the button marked "B" under the "Keyboard Assign" label.

You should now have two Slots active. The one with the flashing LED is the one you can edit at the moment; you can switch between them by pressing the "A" and "B" buttons.

Select one patch for A and another for B. Now notes that you send to MIDI channel 1 should go to A and notes that you send to MIDI channel 2 should go to B.

You don't. A G2 can have only 4 patches loaded at one time, one each in slots A, B, C, and D.
