just wrapping up the corrections, let a few resistors off and missed a couple connections. should be etching a prototype or 2 real soon(hopefully over the weekend/early next week). we're getting there. just taking a little longer than i had hoped. this is by far the biggest thing i've ever taken on. i'm pretty happy with it so far, just pretty complicated and i want to take my time and not screw this up.

Will T4 & T5 (the two 2N5459s) need to be matched?

from photos/schems i can see

pots:
impact click (is this envelope amount?)
decay time
bend level (is this attack?)
effect amount (what does this do - lfo?)
and 2 more
+ channel volume slider (not sure if this is included in the single voice run)

jacks
decay kill
ext. pitch
trigger input

bend up/down switch (or is it a pot)

Hi Jim, sorry for the delay.
It's still moving forward in a slightly on hold kinda way. i'm finishing up my apartment search/relocation from Los Angeles to NYC. that, along with my job, really slowed things down(i've got a new line of eurorack modules heading towards Analogue Haven right now). but i'm hoping to start testing a prototype when i get back home next weekend. i've pretty much wrapped up all my other projects and work stuff till the end of the year and i'm hoping to finish the testing and revisions in that time.
i'll be posting the results of the tests, and if we're really lucky, samples...
i'll also be posting a PCB for a eurorack sized panel for pots and jacks. if there's a lot of interest in that we can talk about doing a run of those, too. it'll be a almost completely wire-free design(jacks will need buss wire), using header rows and connectors with PCB mounted pots. so it'll be set up a lot like the Livewire AFG.
sorry for the delay, guys. sometimes life really gets in the way of plans, but i am completely committed to getting this and having it exactly like the original. mostly cause i really want about 8 of these in my cabinet.
david

Arghhhhhh, I'm trying to figure out what the essential controls are too.

Randal said:

1) LFO rate
2) Mic. level (input sensitivity)
3) Click level
4) Pitch
5) Decay
6) Bend
7) Noise /Tone mix
Cool Bend level
9) Run time (Arp. length-TIME)
10) Effects level (modulation input atten. for LFO and Arp.)
11) Channel level

But, I clearly only see 7 pots per voice, plus the fader. What was he smoking?

Can anyone explain what controls and options are available on the PCB?

Hi,

Just noticed this couple of posts.

On the original SDS3, Channel Pots From top to bottom, left to right:
1) Mic. Sensitivity
2) Impact Click
3) Pitch
4) Decay Time
5) Noise/tone Mix
6) Bend Level
7) Effect Range
8 ) Channel Level (slider)

Then there are four more pots in the effects section:
9) LFO Speed
10) Run Time (Arpeggiator)
Having individual LFO's and Arp's greatly! increases the available variety.

11, 12) Overall pitch and overall level (unnecessary with individual modules, but still useful for a group of SDS3 modules IMO)

Bubblechamber's board is different from mine; I don't know what his board supports. But these 12 pots are the original SDS3 controls.
No smoking involved. Here's a close look at an SDS3.

Kind regards, Randal

Quick update here - nothing too much to tell.. I'm learning kicad so I can transfer the existing design from eagle. I'm an eagle lite user - and not particularly keen on buying the full version. (The design is too big for the free eagle)

It is fairly high in my backlog pile though.. so it will happen. Just not with the speed I had initially hoped. It also looks like the majority of the work has already been done.. so likely just needs a prototype, troubleshoot, prototype, troubleshoot kind of deal.

Yeah... my breadboarding skills aren't super awesome - and I have access to cheap rapid pcb prototyping through a local group I'm involved with here in Portland. So I tend to skip the breadboard step. That would be a whole seperate set of variables to troubleshoot for me! I should definitely get some practice in sometime though - I know I'd be better at all this stuff if I did!

Any update on this project? I would be very interested in a set of boards.

Cheers, vout

Been watching this with interest since the beginning too. Seems like the circuit is a bit tricky to get working reliably!

I captured the schematic in eagle a while ago (the first time this thread went dead). If nobody else is still working on this I'd be glad to do a layout and get a prototype made and see if I have better luck!
