Some Finished Modules |
 |
|
Hi:
I recently finished some modules. There are some knobs missing, but all
are working (except the MIDIbox CV, I have to finish the wiring).
The list:
3 x Yusynth VCO
4 x Yusynth VCA
1 x Yusynth MiniMoog VCF

Good work!
I'm building the Minimoog filter at the moment - did you have any problems when you fired it up at all, or was it a fairly straight forward build? |

The MiniMoog VCF works at first power up (as all the other modules).
I built another MiniMoog VCF for a friend before this one, at that time
I put the TL072 pointing at the wrong direction, and the filter didn't work
until I realized that.
Also my friend forgot the filter powered on (is a stand alone unit) for more
than a day, when he checked, the cutoff frequency knob did't work
anymore. After some troubleshooting I found that one transistor at one of
the CA3046 was dead. _________________ Sebo

Not sure how you plan to power it but if you're using less than +/-15VDC the filter won't self oscillate & you won't get deep resonance out of it. When I built mine I hadn't installed a power supply yet and was trying to run off of 2 9V batteries and encountered this issue. |

I just finished the MIDIbox CV, and then calibrated the 3 VCOs.
They are working great, I get 6 octaves of good tunning in 2 of them and
a little more than 7 in the other.
I'm only having one issue, I can't tune one of the VCOs low enough. The
initial trimmer is all way down but I can reach the low C (C0) for about a semitone.
The other 2 are fine, I tunned the problematic one an octave upper for the
moment but I want to tune it just like the others, I will add a resistor in
serie with the trimmer, I think that will be enough.
The octave selectors worked better than I expected.
Next I will work in the ADSRs and in the Quantix-8.

Well this looks like some resistor has not the right value just do a thorough check then. Check also that the tempco resistor is corectly soldered. Then if you don't find a faulty resistor, you may reduce the value of R8 (make it 390K instead of 470K) _________________ Yves |

In the other two VCOs, I had to turn the trim to the limit to get the tunning right,
and in this one I just can't reach it.
I think there are 2 reason for this, one is the fact that I used 200K trimpots
(I can't find 220K), and the other is that the octave selector lower position
is -5V, if I did correctly the math, in your original design the coarse tune
pot turned all CCW will be -5.5V.
I was thinking of changing the trimpot for a 250K one (adding a resistor will be
a little difficult), but changing R8 will be cheaper and faster (I already
have a 390K resistor).
Thanks again. _________________ Sebo

I changed R8 for a 390K, and is tunned correctly now.
Also I finished one ADSR and is working right. I haven't had the time to wire the other 3. I will post some pictures soon.
I have a question:
In the Wavefolder can I replace the 2 matched BC547 by a 2SC1583? _________________ Sebo

Sure you may replace the two BC547 by a 2SC1583, you will to bend the legs a bit because the PCB wasn't designed for this but it should not be a problem _________________ Yves |

Thank you Yves, I will try the 2SC1583.
Also I want to say that when I measured the tunning of the VCOs I counted
the octaves wrong (I started from oct 1 and should have started from 0).
So 2 of the VCOs tunned correctly for 7 octaves and the third for more
than 8, awesome!!! _________________ Sebo

I finished the first LFO today, but I have some issues, I will post them in
another thread.
