Electro Harmonix POG "Mellotron".

The Mello-POG.
I was able to twist the EH POG with the help of the EH Poly Chorus to sound very reminiscent of the
old MKII tape driven Mellotron keyboard.
Genesis used this sound in songs like "Watcher of the Sky's".

Effect Chain was a humbucker bridge pickup on a Jem guitar into the POG and then into the Poly Chorus.
Delays and Reverb were added after that.

Just amazing what can be done with just a 1/4 inch mono input.

As do I - a funny message, mind, but still an error message. Does that make me an errorist? Cool

Very nice, I enjoyed that! And that's not often the case with me nowadays, I'm getting real finicky about the music I listen to...

The strings sound pretty sweet, Bill. Very Happy Shades of the Moody Blues, sort of. I recall having an Electro-Harmonix Fuzztone for my electric guitar, back in '72. Sure made a great sound. I didn't even know they were still in business.

Hey Bill- that's gorgeous!! You know you can directly upload these tracks to the forum too?

Vangelis was a master of this kind of stuff too- way before all those synthesisers came by. "L'Apocalypse des animaux" is a family favourite here, and you can here very similar textures within it.

I once saw some guy on the TV play an electric guitar through a chain of phasers and delay units. The results were really similar to the title track "Aqua" off Edgar Froese's first solo LP of the same name.

Cor! What an old prog-rocker am I?? Embarassed Laughing

Gary, EH are still going strong. Many of their units are now made in Russia! Idea

I'm too lazy to check my facts here, but isn't there some connection between "New" Electro-Harmonics and Sovtek, the guys who manufacture those great amp valves7tubes? Thence, the new line of valve/tube based stompboxes.

That's kinda sad, in a way. Jeez, you would think we could still make something here.

I'm trying to recall the exact name of the fuzztone unit I had. It was something like the Electro-Harmonix Wasp, or Gnome (may be thinking of Paia, there), or...something like that. By the way, Paia's headquartered just a few miles away from me. I remember paying them a visit, back in 1975 or so, when they were just beginning to become known. They were in an obscure little building in Oklahoma City and all the assembled demo kits they had were on display in a room no larger than my living room. I noodled around on a couple of then high-priced synths, asked a few stupid questions, etc. I was 22, at the time.

Yeah, but not enough. It's become mostly a service-based economy and even that's being sent overseas. Sad

Thanks Guys!

Gary Rea,
Nice connection on the Moody Blues!!!!

I thought the very same thing as I was bouncing the track down to MP3.
The Moody Blues used a Chamberlin Keyboard wich was a brother to the Mellotron.
It sounded some how different to me.

The Chamberlin was started in 1947 and something you could make a movie about!
Tons of intrigue.

Thanks to all for the listen.

I have some new things coming up done using the Electro-Harmonix HOG pedal.
Again mind blowing as it is done with a regular guitar with a regular guitar pickup plugged into the pedal.

Thanks, Bill. Actually, Mike Pinder had worked for Streetly Electronics (makers of the Mellotron) before joining the Moody Blues and he also turned John Lennon and Paul McCartney on to the Mellotron, which they used in the recording of Strawberry Fields. Pinder did, however, use a Chamberlain instead of a Mellotron when the Moody Blues recorded Seventh Sojourn in 1972. Looks like Streetly is still in business, too:
