Greg and I visited the Cheltenham Art Center, CAC, today. It was a pretty dramatic day. In the morning we had a very dark intense rain storm. It blew out at about noon and the afternoon had very strong gusting winds. There were large tree branches blown down all over the place. Our car was blocked at one point by men clearing the branches out of the power lines.

We met the people who we will be working with at the CAC, Andrea Walsh and Patty Castner - great people who are committed to electro-music 2005 being a big success. They are really looking forward to it. We are not just renting some space for a few days, we are partering with them. Andrea is going to work with us on logistics and Patty is going to help with publicity.

The stone structure itself is the first Cheltenham school. It's the oldest school building still in continuous use in Pennsylvania. As you can see it is charming. In the springtime it will be green all around; the picnic tables will be delightful.

We'll have access to both galleries, the main theater, and the upstairs studio during all three days. There are two secure lockable storerooms we can use for instruments and equipment.

Yes, we can have several musical venues set up at once. We'll need at least 3, maybe 4, PA systems. The good thing is that none have to be very big.

Lots of opportunity for electro-jams and schmoozing. Maybe your videos will be seen as the next Woodstock or Monterey Jazz Festival films. Laughing

the first impression was kind of creepy (Psycho/Addams Family Shocked ) but then, looking better, it looks like a very nice place. How is the acoustics inside Question the studio upstairs seems more suited for lectures/seminars than for playing. the galleries seem more suited for small concerts and the main theater for the big events. Am I right Question
Three/four events could take place simultaneously offering the same lecture/seminar/concert on different days at different times of the day. I guess if the "festival" will be well advertised the place will be packed with people with a smile on their face Very Happy

The theater will be used for the main performances. The small gallery will also be used for smaller (solo) performers. They will alternate so that the music can be continuous. The large gallery is too reverberant for performances, but will be available for demos, workshops, seminars and vendor tables. The studio upstairs could be used for jam sessions.
Some of this will depend on how many people we have signing up for the different functions. The time allocated will also depend, e.g. on the number of performers. I'm guessing that a band (2 or more musicians) will play for about 40 minutes and a solo act for 20 minutes. That's long enough to make a statement, but short enough so that if someone doesn't like it, they can just take a break and come back for the next set.
The stage is big enough to allow about four bands to set up ahead of time.
Artists will be asked for the dimensions of their rig and the time required for setup and takedown. This will help us plan the staging and order of performances.

Indeed. And also due to the 2 wonderful CAC directors. I thought the musicians at FE(A)ST sounded great, both in the theater and the smaller gallery. If you have a shot of the stage in the theater, that would be helpful. It is very wide but not too deep. So full bands with alot of equipment/large drum kit should plan accordingly. If need be, I'm sure we could pull back the curtain and use some of that backstage space.

Yes, there is a photo of the stage in Howard's collection.
We will be using the full stage, unlike at the FE(A)ST, so it is much deeper than you saw.
