I recently became interested in programming PICs and dsPICs. I'm currently MacBook based and would like to stay that way for the moment. MPLAB seems to run perfectly fine under Parallels Desktop and recognizes the PICkit 3 debugger/programmer that I'm using. My problem is that the target board that comes with the PICkit 3 is not recognized. Has anyone had any luck using a Mac with Microchip's tools? I realize a Windows machine is most likely the better choice but I'm trying to rule out whether or not I really need to switch back.

I would never have dared to try this (running microchip stuff on windows can be a pain as well Laughing ) ... but glad to see that its possible!

Anything special you had to do?

I didn't have to do too much to get it running. The problem I had turned out to be a setting for the programmer that chooses whether the circuit is powered from the PICkit 3 or from an external source. I completely missed this setting until someone on the Microchip forum pointed it out. Once that was switched everything worked fine. Very Happy

I will note that Windows XP does not run all that great in Parallels Desktop for me. Installing software has been a hassle and I have had to juggle things around the virtual drive to get the installs to run properly. It seems awkward and bogged down but I can live with that for now.
