G2 engine and a Midikeyboard |
 |
|
Hello,
Got a sweet little g2 engine now and wanted to know if it possible to use
the buttons of my midikeyboard(Axium49) to change the pages of the G2
and use the midikeyboard like a G2 Keyboard? |

still yet to set this up properly on my G2 but assigning parameters to regular MIDI controllers is a doddle via the software as long as you know what controllers numbers are used on your midi keyboard
has anyone set up the MIDI feedback function to work with any controller yet? |

You can use any MIDI controller with a G2. In the G2s editor, anything that's a knob, plus some of the toggle switches can be assigned to a controller, as well as variations (the eight numbered buttons at the top). I've used MIDI feedback successfully with the Behringer BCR2000 and BCF2000.
Note however, that if you've seen a demonstration of an actual G2 keyboard, there are some aspects that can't be completely replicated using a third-party MIDI controller. In particular, you can't assign a MIDI controller to a knob in the parameter pages section (Tools/Parameter Pages in the editor), the one that maps directly to the Knob/LCD combos on a G2 keyboard. This is one feature I would love to have had, but won't ever happen.
Regardless, you can make excellent use of any MIDI controller with a G2 using the learn function (tweak a knob on a controller that you want to assign to control the G2, right-click on the knob in the editor that you want to control, under "MIDI controller", click the received value (if no value has been received, this will say "No MIDI CC Received").

Hey g(2)uys,
Thank you for the fast response.I thought that maybee nrpn or something else could be use(My Cakewalk a 300 pro knows this size)
I think i take a try with the switch buttons and make 2 envelopes assign to the morph function to make it work. |

do the patch variations also work well with MIDI feedback or is it just patch change? |

The patch variations work well with MIDI feedback. You can't decide which MIDI CC you want to use however - the variation CC is fixed, You will find it in the manual somewhere (I don't have a G2 or manual close at hand), or if you listen on the MIDI traffic using MidiPipe or MidiOX, you can see which messages the G2 sends. The 0-127 interval is divided by eight, each subinterval matching one variation button.

| No MIDI controller w/ Engine will be able to control parameters that are not assigned MIDI CCs. You need to assign a CC to a parameter in the editor for it to be controllable by a MIDI controller. The G2 keys' functionality of paging through all parameters in the patch won't be available for an Engine. |

Hi there, is it possible with the editor-function to assign the complete patch to midi controller (assign all midi) to create a example of controllers, which can be used by a controller- any time for every patch? It won´ttabe possible to send a list of controller from the editor to the controller? Or?
Which midi controller is the best to fit for the g2 engine?

If you assign any knob/button you want control over to a parameter page location, then there is a button on the parameter page to "Auto Assign" midi. The editor will just incrementally go through all the knobs and buttons you've selected, and assign a MIDI CC to it. This way you can create your patch, start recording, and adjust parameters to be recorded. You can save this patch as the default template for future patches.
However, you can't auto assign the same MIDI to every patch (ie- MIDI CC#10 gets assigned to OSC1 Freq"). Since it's a modular, anything goes, and there's too many combinations for the editor to know about then! |

I highly recommend the Remote Zero (I'm using a mk I) because of the nice big screen on it where you can name the controls and see their values. It's very helpful to have some visual feedback, which the Engine cannot provide. |
