Subject description: Why not make em yourself?

In chat we came up with the idea of a ringtone thread. I've been making my own for quite a time now, so I never have to look for my phone when yet another Nokia tune or classic Blackberry ring is heard in public transport. Every time one of the common ringtones is heard, you see people looking irritated that they didn't get an email. Laughing
So I thought, we can do that better. Not the boring ringtones we hear everyday. Good pieces of sound, so we all can change the world of annoyance a little bit. Make em, distribute em!

That brings on another subject. What is a good ringtone? What does it need? I for instance think it needs to get someones attention, has to be short and recognizable. Low frequency stuff doesn't work with those small speakers either.

What do you think? What did you made?
Let's make a collection of good ringtones. Here! Very Happy

Here is one I did, this is White Noise II inspired - a David Vorhaus like sequence, I made a G2 patch to do this.

And it uses a wide frequency range, which seems to work indeed.

I'm kind of with Les here. Smile

But other than that, there's an entire 8-bit electronic scene, which I would think would make for pretty good ring tones.

I bet there is a lot of creativity to be enjoyed in creating standard phone rings also.

I want a ringtone that sounds like someone's baby laughing. Wink

But on a serious note, I've tried making my own ringtones and they're pretty hard to do if you're concerned about not annoying the hell out of everyone in the vicinity. I guess I'm oversensitive about such things.

/Stefan

What about ring tones that say silly things?

"Your phone is on fire."

"Please deposit two pounds, six pence."

"Your dealer is on line three."

Or maybe musical death threats such as *I'll kill you all tomorrow!*

Razz

My ringtone was inspired by a very old (60s) Bill Cosby joke. He said he wanted a doorbell with a voice that said "there's somebody at the door."

My ringtone is me, in my highest possible voice (which isn't very high; I'm a low baritone) saying, "ring ring ring ring, the phone is ringing, ring ring ring."

You should see the looks on bystanders' faces when I get a call.

I used my highest voice because my usual pitch gets lost in any background noise.

My previous ringtone was the bass line from my tune "mudball" which I used primarily because it annoyed my daughters. In 1983 I recorded several versions of the tune, so they heard that line for hours as I recorded it several times and played it back many more. For years after that, any time we passed a keyboard I would play that line just to hear them moan.

The value of weird ringtones, for me, is that I can always tell my ring from others.

There's a movie titled "Bedtime Stories". Guy has a phone with a ringtone of an old man screeching "RING RING RING!". Razz

Dagnabbit! Now I have to change my ringtone again!

I think there's an old style European police siren sound on one of my Casios; the classic high-low-high-low siren. That would make a cool ringtone. I can even pitch bend it to make it sound like a doppler shift when passing.

Laughing

Just don't set your ring tone to a semi-automatic going off...
