Some speculate that it's ddrum revisited or something that is meant to be triggered from a drum controller or similar. Hence, nothing sexy like a sequencer. Wink I prefer to be pessimistic, the better the pleasant surprise.

Does look like ddrum indeed! But it would be nice if we can trigger sounds with MIDI!..

:O Wow! I love the look of it.. looking forward to hearing some samples.

The size and lack of IO makes me think it might be quite budget... Which would be nice. Looks like it only has a mono or stereo out. So they clearly think it can produce a mixed drum sound as is.

Quote:
Nord Drum
4 Channel Virtual Analog Drum Synthesizer

"Clavia releases Nord Drum Virtual Analog Drum Synthesizer

The Nord Drum is a revolutionary 4-channel drum synthesizer that is the result of a creative collaboration between Clavia and drum/music technology enthusiasts Bruniusson & Berg. With an amazingly vast sonic palette and an astounding level of playability it is guaranteed to change your perception of what’s possible with synthetic, sample-free percussion.

The Nord Drum lets you create classic retro-futuristic percussion with analog waveforms or use the harmonically complex waveforms together with different colors of noise for results that both sound and respond stunningly organic. The Nord Drum is designed with the performing musician in mind and its extreme dynamic range and super-fast triggering add to the feeling of playing a real instrument.

4 high-sensitivity inputs and MIDI lets you play the Nord Drum with a wide range of Electronic Drum Pads, Acoustic Drum Triggers and MIDI-pads/Sequencers for easy integration into any existing drum-kit or the starting point for something completely new…

The Nord Drum will be shown at the AM&S Nord Booth #6464 at NAMM Show 2012"

Wired up to an old Korg Electribe, this thing should be a lot of fun. Cool

They must have been really short of space to justify using a stereo jack.

If it's also intended to be used to drive headphones, then I'm curious what kinds of compromises are being made in terms of the differences in impedance between line level and headphone levels.

It looks really cool Smile

I hope it's based on the Nord Modular G2, cause it's my main source of drumsounds and I think it's a really cool machine for that.

But why only 4 channels?
That seems a little bit insufficient for a proper electronic drumkit...

The first thing I thought of when I saw this new module would be VA instead of sample based was "I wonder if they reused the G2 drum module?".

I suppose many would be interested in sequencing applications, but I'm curious as to how this module would deal with position-sensitive drum controllers.

There are some more photos here - http://m.matrixsynth.com/2012/01/namm-clavia-nord-keyboards-new-products.html

Indeed, if the Nord can handle position sensitive pads, it would be great Smile
If that's the case, I think I would be interested in one.
But from what I could see on those photos and description, it seems to be quite based on the old Simmons modules... so I'm not sure if it will be that worth it, as Simmons modules aren't exactly that expensive... so I'd say it'll only be interesting if it goes for a nice price...

It sounds pretty nice indeed.

But from the photos and specs... what's the big advantage over an old Simmons kit, for instance?

More to the point, what is the advantage over say, plugging in an old Nord Micromodular?

Perhaps this was originally supposed to be the new G2 micro? Rolling Eyes

Ha! Freakin' awesome! I thought it was a joke until I searched for it! I think it's a conspiracy! They KNOW we'll want all these docks, and then we'll get tired of taking the iPad out of one and putting it in another,so we'll BUY MORE iPads! Brilliant!
On a related note: did you see the Behringer iPad mixer?
Now you can actually make you iPad SUCK! Laughing
