I made a record called "Doodles" that I put up on iTunes via TuneCore (besides a number of US streaming sites), and later SoundCloud. As it was released, I did a show here on radio.electro-music.com where I talked a bit about each track and played all tracks from the album.

Doing that show was lots of fun and made me want to do it again, so I gathered some other tunes I had lying around, polished them a bit, and broadcast them in another show, which you can find here. Most of these tracks can't be easily found elsewhere, so I'm going to post them here.

I'm not sure of which order I played these, and I've lost the playlist it seems, so I'm just going to post the main tracks alphabetically, according to the filenames they got.

Bilging Duty takes it's name from a chore you can do in Puzzle Pirates, which I was into at the time. I think it's mostly Ableton Live instruments controlled manually from a keyboard, and some other stuff, chugging along.

Bocca Lika takes it's name from the fact that I thought, at the time, that part of it got a bit of a Boards of Canada vibe. I don't really see that now... anyway Boards of Canada is a great inspiration and I try to sound like them every now and then. Trying something and failing is one way of getting somewhere.

Corridors builds up slowly using arpeggio riffs and stuff that generally repeats. It's a sombre affair, a bit like stuff I made later on the Commuter's Diary tracks. 7 minutes - longer than usual for me on a track like this.

Curetronic premiär is the first thing I did after I had gotten my Curetronic modular put together. I think everything including the percussion is done by adding track after track of modular sequences and tweaks.

Follow the String through the Fog is a simple track featuring a kind of Euro Techno bass that I sometimes can't resist using.

Usually when I record a song into the DAW, it gets a filename that indicates what instrument was mainly used (unless it has a song part with lyric, in which case I'll give it a name from the lyric), with a number added at the end. Then when I decide to mix it down properly and show it to someone I'll give it a name. Since "git1" was only shown to someone when I put together the Doodles II show, it never got a fancier name than that. Anyway, it's a guitar-heavy instrumental, as the name indicates, with a static noodle thing in the background. This is a kind of music which I feel is in danger of falling between labels, and it's difficult knowing if it will be appreciated, say, here, or in a rock forum or whatever. I'm happy with it at any rate, though it could be fleshed out and varied a bit.

I was pretty sure I had put up "I Remember You" somewhere, but it doesn't seem like it. Anyway, it has a melancholy TV-feel, an instrumental mix of synth and guitar sounds. I struggled a lot with the bass guitar part, I wish I could have been able to do a better job with that.

Kinda Counterpoint is a silly thing... I struggle getting my head around counterpoint, what it means, and how you do it. I put this in as a transition thing between tracks.

Listen to Me is another thing I did after getting my modular set up - possibly also the MFOS SoundLab Ultimate that I made shortly after getting the Curetronic. It's a melancholy melody with arps and stuff.

"modular" is another track which never got the honor of having a better name. It's mostly a kind of broken bass riff, a flowing percussion and some wackiness.

"Pace Your Eyes" is a pop song that ended up on a collection of pop/rock tunes called "Tailors", which you can find here. I included it in the Doodles II show before that. The piano sound was made by having a MIDI controller play a piano sound on a rompler as well as an Arturia Origin patch simultaneously, the piano going into the Origin which gated the whole sound while doing some filtering stuff, leading to a weird attack/release effect. I'm generally annoyed at the Origin's way of dealing with this gating stuff, but that's another thread. :/

Repetitive Weak is a minimal thing that probably works better as a transitoire than on its own, though I like the bass sequence. Could be fleshed out more.

Sink into It features more guitar, probably a lot of Evolver and strange percussion.

Sombre explains itself - more sombreness, guitar and light percussion.

The Lagoon - I chose that name from the feel of the start of the tune, before guitars barge in and break the tranquility.

They Used to Live Upstairs uses one sequence and has stuff dance around it. I'm happy with the main sounds, off the Poly Evolver.

Togetherpoint was made right after "Kinda Counterpoint" above, trying a different approach, having sequences touch each other here and there. Or something. I think it's all done on the modular(s), with an MXR Carbon Copy analog delay ringing in the background.

Welcome Light is an Evolver-heavy track with a nice melody that I'm happy with.

vg99 was done on the... wait for it... VG99! The main piano line was played using the VG99's MIDI output.

vg993 is another VG99 track, trying out a synth sound on a melody I came up with. I added some effects in Live afterwards to take some of the harshness out of the sound. If it had crossed my mind, I probably would have added some EQ as well.

What is Love is a song consisting of (I think) a Nord Modular G2 key sound and a quiet vocal.

Where Are My Keys Where Do I Live is another transitoire track, even though I'm happy with the slanted drunken sound.

Whitewashed Labyrinth is an example of when I come up with a short cyclic melody/bass thing that I like, though I struggle to carry into a larger environment, ending up with a brief thing like this, with a kind of forced middle section where I tried to add some variation. :/

You Can Leave Me Now is another track that ended up in the Tailors collection. It's very pop, but I put in a lot of work on it and I'm quite happy with the result.

Above are all of the main tracks in the Doodles II collection. For the show I made some transition tracks that were meant to be mixed in between the tracks. They're mostly just simple drones or sequences done on the modular. I'll post them here too.

Actually, inbetweener3 is kind of fun. Smile
