Making cheap 1/4" patch leads

I want to make cheap 1/4" patch leads.

I can buy old guitar leads cheaply from eBay, chop them up (typically they are 6 metres long) and add additional 1/4" jacks.

Is this something that others have done or is not to be recommended for some reason unknown to me?

I want a cheap but functional set of leads.

sure you can do this, I've made cables in the past by buying seperate cable and jacks. But I can get 6 colored patch cables
for ± €8,- so I don't bother with it anymore. Advantage of making them yourself is that you can make them in any length
and use better quality cable and maybe metal jacks. But the store bought ones have the jacks molded on which in my experience
makes them a bit more reliable.
