1. on the schematic for the patching out of the VCA & VCF on the website you are left with 01, 02, and NS with nowhere to connect them so i have turned them into 1/4inch inputs aswell , is this correct??

O1/ O2 / NS are oscillator 1 output, oscillator 2 output, and noise output. They are references to similarly named points on other sheets. The idea being that their outputs would be going through the attenuators into the VCF, which then goes into the VCA. Basically, the VCF has an input stage which is just a mixer.
If your plan is to use jacks for inputs, what I would do is use switching jacks and normal those three outputs to those three jacks I see in your diagram. Then you don't have to plug any cables in to use the normal routing, but you can override each of them with some other signal if you wish. Does that make sense?
I built mine from the same patch out diagram using bananas (search "cigarlab" and you should be able to find some photos). I left the mixer section intact and added jacks on the back to allow a single external input each to the VCF and VCA. Any attenuation of that input signal would have to be done externally; thinking about it now, I did also add a mixer stage for both versions of O2 output, pulse and saw, and if I were to do it again I think I would normal the saw to the external input so I could attenuate it directly.
I haven't had time to look over all your schematics, not sure if that's likely any time soon. But I've built three various model soundlabs including two of the Mark I, and thought I could help on this first question. |

01 , 02 and NS are outputs on the VCO schematic (01,02) and the noise source generator (NS) on the LFO/power/noise source schematics ?
but on the Schematic for the VCA/VCF I thought they are inputs?? I have changed 01,02, and ns to 1/4 inch jacks on the VCA/VCF...
I mnot quite sure if you know what I am trying to say , and I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to say, hopefully you can take a 5minute look at my work , I think it would clear this questions up..... |

Both statements are correct -- they are connected together. Ray's labelling is such that any point with a circle and a label on any of the sheets is intended to be THE SAME POINT, connected.
They are not meant to be changed to jacks, unless you want to complete sever the connection between the different parts of the synth. The patch-out version *adds* inputs and outputs in addition to the ones already there.
The alternative I mentioned about using switched jacks would be a middle-ground--keeps the connection *unless* you use the jacks, but then you don't need the additional resistors drawn in Ray's patch-out version.
It takes more than 5 minutes to compare your schematics to Ray's more comprehensively. |
