Subject description: Gate and AR Mod not responding
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

First post, longtime lurker. Welcome me.

I just built a NT and am having some problems with my first run. I am following the test plan as spelled out by Ray in his awesome book about DIY synth. I get VCO, VFO, White Noise although it's quiet, and LFO out of the NT but the switch for manual gate is not responsive nor is the NT when I flip the ARMod switch to on.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'v e checked wiring and solders. Nothing odd so far. Thanks.

Well I found one of the culprits— a diode on one of the pots was reversed. It's now working so much better but I have a new problem which is the amp seems to be not working well. It seemed to get quieter. I suspect it's the U3 or still investigating the wiring.

I had many problems getting my NT finished up and working properly. None of the problems were due to components or the design. All were wiring mistakes on my part. I used a custom panel design so I had to translate Ray's panel design to my own.

It is a complicated build. There are many pots and switches. It was very easy for me to get a switch wired incorrectly and produce unexpected results. I recommend checking your switch wiring first - I had one where I wired to terminals 1 and 3 Instead of 1 and 2. I was using a double throw switch in place of a single throw. I spent a week of evenings trouble shooting that one. I laugh now but I was very frustrated then. By wiring terminals 1 and 3 there was no way the signal was getting through the switch. I fixed it and the entire device came to life.

So check your wiring.
