Any one else with the same probs ? |

Hi,
I own a modular g2 engine and use it in combination with my Roland A-70 masterkeyboard or at home with cubase SX2. The problem I've got, is when I change my presets for example with my A-70 it happens, that the NM g2 freeze and must be restarted (power off/on). The same happens after a "Go to start" |<< in Cubase. I've reported this to clavia and they confirmed my problem but didn't fixed the bug up to yet. Please report if you have the same problem. |

Hi there.
I've not had the exact same problem, but my G2 engine has 'lost USB connection' several times when changing patches and had to be rebooted. Maybe it is the same problem? Note that the USB cable does not actually need to be touched to fix the problem, so I think it is a false diagnosis that the G2 is giving me.
Anyway, were you sending MIDI info back from the G2 to the keyboard? I've had a few problems which were resolved when I 'cut' the MIDI loop.
Good luck anyway. |

Occasionally, my G2 will hang - it won't respnd to the computer and pushing buttons don't do anything. A power recycle always fixes things. I've never been able to identify anything that I could do to reproduce this. Mostly it seems to happen if I leave it on but unused for a long time. _________________ --Howard

In my experience when you leave the G2 engine on for a few days or a week or so all kinds of weird things can happen, like no sound being produced anymore, MIDI processing not working anymore (both internal and external), LED indicators in the editor not working etc.
Whatadditional things happen with the key versions I don't know, but I can imagine knobs not working anymore & leds & stuff like that.
Rebooting the G2 is the only thing that helps then. There seems to be an issue with an overflowing timer in the G2, or something., the rumour goes.

Sounds like a real possibility, but - I read almost every post on this forum and the NM mailing list. I figure every NM rumor would be circulating through those media. Where do you get such rumors? _________________ --Howard

I was having issues with the G2 engine hanging, but I think this may be system dependent in regards to the usb setup possibily (chipset?)
, I have no idea I am just guessing.. But this did happen on another computer of mine and no longer occurs on my new setup.
However I have had my G2 currently on for a few months now.
I dont recall powering it any time recently and all has been well.
But from what I have read and seen things surely can happen.
In regards to this thing with "Go to start" |<< in Cubase however that would only seem to occur when sending midi clock out or perhaps unneeded settings that somehow the G2 is getting. That is surely odd.
So is this thing with changing patches. How many patch changes can you make on the A-70 without it happening again? |

| I must say I haven't had any crashes for a long time, even when in "geek mode" (=patching nonstop for 18+ hours). |

I used to turn off my G2 every day but started leaving it on 24/7 when another piece of gear made access to the power switch awkward. I noticed once that a crackling appeared on a patch that I could not see any reason for (as apposed to the crackling noises I make deliberately). After checking all the leads etc, I power cycled and the problem disappeared, I now make the effort to press the power switch each day.
Note: this problem occurred after running for a few weeks at least.
As far as crashes go, nothing since moving over to my XP machine. |

Yes, I can reproduce the problem and I sent clavia the midi log and they can reproduce the fault although.
My great problem is to use the G2 engine in my live environment. After a freeze I have to select the patch with a program select.
The problem is to find in the combination of reset all controller, bank select and program change midi commands.
You allways get the error message "lost USB connection" and both LEDs (midi and usb) are lightning permanent. Sheridan described the same problem I think.
Sheridan -> I don't send any midi commands back to the keyboard but to my sequencer |

Hello again... did someone mention my name???
I haven't actually suffered from this problem for a while but I may be able to narrow down the cause (of my problem). It seemed to happen when I was 'flicking' through the patches - maybe I tried to move to the next before the G2 had finished loading the previous patch?
Nope, it's not that - I've just experimented doing just that and it is fine.
From your replies sinswolf, I gather that you have G2 keyboard... that makes me wonder why you need a USB connection for 'live' jobs at all? Surely you don't need the editor open when you're playing live?? Why not just connect to the sequencer by MIDI instead? |

This happens to me with my desktop computer at work, and Windows 2000.
Have our worst fears come true?
Is the G2 running an embedded version of Windows? |
