USB vs. HDMI |
In one of the other threads, Jez reported that instead of using HDMI cameras, he's using USB cameras. To my knowledge, this obviates the need of an expensive HTML video switcher and expensive cameras. Multiple USB cameras can be accommodated by a powered hub if the laptop doesn't have enough USB inputs. But since an external switcher removes processing demand from the CPU, the CPU now has more demand placed on it. Sounds like a balancing act. Since my "new" (refurbished) laptop is similar to Jez's, I don't think that I'll have much worry. Soon, I'll have to buy some cameras.
Other folk, what cameras are you using? _________________ Bill Fox------------------|\-------------

Update |
I bought one of the Logitech webcams that Jez is using. I bought mine from Dell as they had the best price that I could find. Also, due to the pandemic, almost no one else had these in stock! (April, 2021.)
Using a webcam seems as if the quality will be good enough as no one really can view things in 4k. This also avoids the cost of more expensive cameras and an HDMI video switcher. Despite having gas for the ATEM Mini, avoiding the $300 cost is attractive.
All that remains for me in this regard is to obtain a USB extension cable as the webcam's cable won't reach across the room... and to get more webcams. _________________ Bill Fox------------------|\-------------
