Modules for XMAS. Gifts for him and her! |

Modular synthesis has never been as fun as this year.
...from Doepfer:
A-109 Voltage Controlled Signal Processor: VCF + VCA + Panning in one low-cost combi-module
24dB low pass with voltage controlled resonance (up to self-oscillation)
VCA
VC Panning unit.
Price: Euro 120.00 / US$ 130.00, available now
This module uses the Curtis' CEM3379 chip. It is a famous little piece of silicon that that was used in several Sequential, Ensoniq and PPG synthesizers. The CEM3379 is no longer in production so the A-109 module will be available in limited quantities. The A-109 is "almost" a little synth on its own. You would not need many modules in order to have a complete synth. The nice price probably suggests you buy a lot of these.
A really cute feature in the VCF section of the module is the "constant amplitude versus resonance design". Simply this means that the peak-to-peak output level remains within 6dB when the output waveform rings from added resonance. Great! _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

The Doepfer A-140, a cute ADSR that mathces the A-109
An ADSR module is an envelope generator and is the natural companion of a VCA. As soon as the gate input receives sufficient voltage, the ADSR generates a variable voltage, changing in time, called an envelope. This varying voltage is output in normal (positive) and inverted form, and can be used, eg., for voltage controlled modulation of a VCO, VCF, or VCA, or for processing other modules' inputs and outputs.
This module also offers an indispensable retrig function. If the gate is still open, sending another signal on the retrig input will restart the envelope. Doepfer suggest getting the comparator unit A-167 which allows setting up a free-running "ADSR-LFO". Great idea.

Doepfer has a VC module called the A-111 High-End VCO. Looks nice.
And yes.. it really has a CV input for linear FM. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Oakley Sound Systems has an excellent VCO whch suits the a-109 well.

The MIDI Gadget
A MIDI controller shaped like a Hayden Duet Concertina
isn't it perfect as a Christmas present?

This is quite interesting. Reminds me of a scaled down version of the instrument played by The Mule in Asimov's "Foundation" series.

what about a mouse pad with radio? or
a 128 Mb USB memory card camouflaged as a wrist watch? or
a talking frame to see and/or record the voice
of your loved ones? or
fluorescent slippers for those long hours in front of the computer? _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube
