Euro MPF102 substitutes?

Anybody know if there is a viable substitute over here (UK) for the mpf102? It can be obtained through Farnell but there is a wacking great big shipping charge from the USA of £13 for a part that essentially costs only 9 pence!!. I tried a search on the fairchild substitute as recommended by Ray but I can't find a seller over here for that. Failing that, anyone want to come in with me for a bulk order?

perhaps it's the unreal heat over here right now? I just walked into the supermarket to buy some teabags and I couldn't remember why I went in there!

In a real moment of the Homer Simpson's I walked into the the beer shelf!

After all this globalisation shit that we have to endure (like the plural for beer now being 'beers' for eg) dumb supermarkets still don't put their lager into fridges (actually I prefer ale to lager- but thats another story....)

its too hot and i'm on the wierd trip :D

You can substitute the MPF102 with the 2N5457.

I'd also like to find a substitute, I'm putting together an order with a local supplier now and would rather not make such a tiny order abroad, but neither the MPF102, BF256A or 2N5457 are available.

Are there other substitutes?
I'd like to know what parameters to match, what is important in this respect?
Would "high frequency" transistors be best?
How about the BF245A? http://www.elfa.se/pdf/71/07100522.pdf - seems like a good match to me- but then again, I really don't know what .

Well I've got an interesting tale to tell. I found some company on ebay selling mpf102's in the UK. The strarting bid was £4.99. So I bid £7.12 and was outbid by someone who last bid on an item over 6 months ago. Then I got a PM asking me to make a new second offer for my highest bid as a 'buy it now'. I smell a BIG TURD!!!

Okay some people have to make a living but this is taking the piss!

However, later last night I found another chap in America (on ebay) selling 2n5457's for about 3p each- 50 infact, but hey, they have so many uses and I could always pass a few on to you fellaz if you don't mind waiting a bit? :)

Jaycar electronics keeps the MPF102 as a standard line. They're charging about AU$1.30 each, less for bulk. I don't know if it's worth it for you guys by the time you add postage etc. but I do know they send orders OS as I used to work there.
I'm not trying to sell you, I just know they have them.

Thanks dnny, I found a couple of these at my local supplier. I'll notify if they don't perform as expected, but I have to build the thing first.

And, thanks v-un-v, I suspect I'll be back with more questions over the next few weeks as I start assembling my SoundLab. I'm thinking of adding an additional LFO built on veroboard for some spacey intermodulation, I'll let you all know how that works out, also a headphone amplifier, the 1V/oct scaling and fine tuning.

The substitute I specified can be easily found at Rapid Electronics for pennies.

It works perfectly...at least it worked perfectly on my 'Updated and Improved VCO'
