Years ago at an electro-music festival in Huguenot, NY, Dale Parson exposed us to Zero Input Mixer. By accident, I ran into these videos...

I am sure that there are a lot of others. Enjoy.

BTW, I looked up Huguenot and notice that the camp has new ownership. Here is the website.

Perhaps this isn't a "pure" concept for a ZIM setup, but since a mixer usually includes EQ, I don't consider this being too far off base.

Adding reverbs, delays, and other effects might be of value.

Hi Bill! Just saw this post, thanks. No that I am retired and hoping to work my way back from mostly graphics & video to more music. Working on some ZIM today. Very Happy

Hi Jan! I retired January 1, 2025 at age 70, partly to store up some extra money (4 grandkids, 2 of those foster and 1 adopted (in New Mexico) with special needs stemming from early childhood trauma), partly because I liked my professor job. It took me a while to start sleeping through the night — waking up with brain fully engaged — I’ve gotten past that now. Splitting my time between video improvisation (no AIs), hiking with my doggy, playing with my granddaughter in Pennsylvania and kitties, contributing to protest rallies, and hanging out with my wife.

I submitted 3 videos to 3 different juried exhibitions within the last few months and also completed 3 videos to add to one performed by my university’s choir and percussion ensemble at the request of the composer.

https://jennibrandon.com/product/death-valley-symphony-dark-sky/

I don’t post these until the exhibit is done or until they are rejected, but here is the one with music performance from April 2024:

For my 3 unrelated to this composer, I used my own music recordings from electro-music events years gone by. I really need to do a few things to get back into the groove:

1. Get my chops back. Right hand banjo picking is fine, but left hand fretting has a little slop from lack of practice.
2. Get my instruments up to snuff. Godin xTSA MIDI guitar needs some tuning peg repair, and I lost licenses to Ableton Live and some 3rd party plug-in soft synths when I retired. I either need to buy those things and/or learn Supercollider.
3. *Write some new music*. This is the biggy. I think if I start writing more the other things will come with it, but most of that juice is still going into video programming and improv. My coding is in Processing:

https://processing.org/

Anyway, I will wait to contribute to a equinox / solstice webcast until I have something new to contribute. Bootstrap mode for now.

Take care.,

Hi Bill. This subject of purity came up at one of the EM ZIM workshops. Without having dug into the mixer circuitry, my assumption is that the EQs, filters, and compressors are analog, and therefore perfectly legit in this kind of analog synthesis. I use those heavily.

The Fx are digital. I use those in certain sections of compositions, and in the past have also done post-processing in Ableton Live and ChucK. The music is the thing!

Take care.
