Netaudio Online Advent Calendar |
|
|
The Cologne-based netaudio-label www.ideology.de offers a funky online Advent calendar. It allows you to download a track, graphics or a dj-mix every day up to Dec 24th. Each door in the calendar will only be opened for one single day so you need to come back every day to check what's new. On the site, there are a couple of other free mp3 downloads that are really worth it:
VA - feu'netik: A label portfolio of www.ideology.de - the styles vary from funky K&D type lounge stuff to fluffy LTJ Bukem type D'n'B to hip-hop, ambient and techno. Kinda unusual span of genres, really colourful.
Cuebism - Circle EP: Incredibly funky disco-house, glittering, bouncy, stylish. A must-have.
Brigitte Bijoux - Le Fleuve Profond: extremely well produced Lounge/D'n'B tracks, sometimes with a catchy hook, sometimes quirky.
Sudio - Current Trends In Neural Science: Wow, now this is electronics. Multi-layered, complex. Very nice sounds. Sci-Fi ambient/intelligent techno/neo funk. Definitely tasty stuff. |

Getting SUDO right now. Playing the first track. Very nice late 70s style. I did not find much of "ambient/intelligent techno/neo funk", but perhaps the other songs are "ambient/intelligent techno/neo funk". But.. this is nice anyway.
Hmm... "neo funk"? Parliament Funkadelic was supposedly "neo funk"!? Hmm.. do I have to rent an intergalactic pimpsuit before I listen to the rest? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

You mean you don't own an intergalactic pimpsuit? |

Floyydd, welcome to our site.
Thanks for posting this link. I'm listening now. Very nice stuff. I like it that there are ogg files posted. This is better than mp3 from the quality of sound point of view. I'm glad to see people using this. _________________ --Howard

Hi mosc, thanks for the welcome.
I like id.eology because unlike a truckload of other netlabels, they don't go so much for the nerdy glitch'n'bleep type of stuff but rather combine familiar musical forms with new sounds and mixing-styles. There's a bit more substance in their stuff, a statement against arbitrariness. The site also has some good humour, I find. The ogg files are another plus.
What I find pretty amazing about netlabels in general is that these blokes do all that work for zero payment, just because they're fond of music. And seeing the netaudio-stuff is, on average, well done, I think it's a real alternative to industry-music. It's authentic cause these people do what they really wanna do and are not following any formulas in order to sell their stuff. Paradoxically, this makes me more willing to pay the netaudio-guys for what they do than spending money on a CD. |

Are you using the netaudio and netlabels terms interchangably?
What do you mean "...more willing to pay the netaudio-guys for what they do than spending money on a CD."? Do you mean you'd be willing to pay for downloads? Somethings like Apples ITunes? |

Soz for being absent for a bit ...
So anywaze, yeah, to me netaudio is what is being put out by netlabels like iD.eology, Thinner, Subsource, Ageema Blues and the lot. Non-commercial music that's being distributed freely via the net.
All these people work for zero payment and yet, they manage to produce cool music which they make available to everyone with internet access. So, no doubt, these people will find a little financial support very helpful. Plus, you could be pretty sure the money won't get wasted on launch-parties with hors d'oeuvres and champagne or the n-th copy of some well-selling chart-topper. I suppose they would rather buy more webspace or give one of their artists the chance to get access to professional distribution. What I mean is, these folks are into it for the music - and that is something I find worth supporting. So, I would rather pay these guys for downloads (even though their stuff is for free) than pay enterprises like Sony or BMG for their stuff (even though they explicitely want money for it).
Paradoxical, don't you find?

Yes, I understand. We've talked about these issues a lot here in the various forums. Thanks for the clairification of netlabels. Makes sense. |
