Am I missing something? The noise oscillator seemed very promising, the inexpensive choir and a great Lesley organ effect. But I can’t seem to find any other use for it.
Anyone got some tricks to share or is it just a two trick pony?

It's very handy for synthesizing mosquitos.

I use a lot them as impulses to filters when I want to use their self-oscillation capabilities as sine wave replacement. I my latest hammond patch i've replaced standard sine oscillators with filters driven by a noise osccilattor. The possibility to set its width has been very useful to me to soil the hammond sound.

Quite useful for percussive sounds like the snapping sound in this clip (bit of modulated delay, reverb and chorus also added)...

Hey that is good, back off the mod level and increase the width and it makes a pretty good slipping fan belt as well.

I have used it for sound design patches (to save on filters), and percussion sounds... so, the same as these guys basically. Also, you can get some nice sounds from the narrow band noise, when overlayed with synth type sounds, to brighten the attack for instance, or when frequency modulated.

Personally, I would have preferred it if the noise osc could go from one extreme to the other, ie. to full band noise at one extremity.

I've used 'm to FM / PM other oscs, better than plain noise but kind of expensive.

I've used it on several patches with good results. Try using two or three of them tuned to higher harmonics of the main oscs in the patch (like 4:1, 6:1 and 8:1) and mix in just a bit of them on top of the main oscs. Really nice if the signal is being passed through phasors of chorus modules later in the chain. You can get some really lush breathy rompler-type sounds.

48 hours 'til I'm cruising up the Mekong, sitting in a wicker deck chair with some really strong Vietnamese coffee and watching the passing jungle...

Thought you were there already, in the middle of a typhoon ...

And a patch using the noise osc multiplied by some other oscs as the main sound source. It gives some grain like sounds here.
